Introduction-
• The day to day increase in comsumption of fossile
fuel and its impact on environments force us to
think about sustainable method to full fill energy
demands.
• So 3R principle(reduce, recyle,reuse) is base
ideology behind our project.
• We are implementing 3R principle by converting
waste lubricating oil to a fuel blend
Waste lubricating oil-
• It is a mixture of oxidized long chain alkane ,aromatic
hydrocarbon(PAH),metal impurities like sillicon(Si),
Aluminium (Al), Iron (Fe) and Nickel (Ni), small amount of
water, & carboxylic acid due to oxidation at elevated
temperature & suspended dust, organo metalic additives.
• Chemical degradation occurs due viscous heating and this
is conformed by reference 1
• Due to this chemical degradation Wlo is very temperature
sensitive(reference no -1) hence not useful for
temperature insensative lubrication & presence of
carboxylic group accelerates corrosion.
Why Wlo can be used as raw
material?
• Wlo can be used as an alternative fuel because of
its calorific value and sulphur content of 44.806
MJ/kg and 4.23ppm respectively. The sulphur
content is much lower than that of standard diesel
which is at 500 ppm.
• After pyrolysis there is a high chance in
improvment in calorific value of final product.
• The calorific value of diesel fuel is roughly 45.5
MJ/kg
OBJECTIVE
• To determine optimum blending ratio of pyrolytic
oil derived from waste lubricating oil with diesel &
petrol.
• Optimum blend ratio can be found by compairing
the properties(aniline point,acid value,calorific
value etc ) of diesel and petrol with pyrolytic oil
blended diesel & petrol.
Pyrolysis of Wlo(automobile)
• It can reduce original carbon chain of C24-C60 to C12-C25 in
a micro tubing bomb reactor(ref-2)
• Gas production is 1-3%wt and oil production varies from 95-
98%wt.
• Oil product splits into two type of carbon chain ie-C5-
C11,C12-C25 by parallel reaction.
• ADVANTAGE-
• no sludge disposal
• Oil yield is high
• Environmental friendly after removal of metalic impurities
,sulphur,Phosphorous,chorine compound.
Application
• Reduce our fossile fuel dependency.
• Reduce environmental hazards created by waste
lubricating oil(PAH are carcinogenic & create
various health issues.)(ref)
• Provide alternative incomes to organization
handeling waste lubricating oil.
• Different fuel blends can be prepaired for differents
applications like furnaces, reboiler etc .
