Started by Ritesh Agarwal at the age of 17 in the year 2013. Paypal invested $100000 in
the idea.
EXTERNAL MARKETING (Setting the promise):
Occurs between Oyo and its customers
• Advertising- in social media (Facebook, Instagram, newspapers), Independence
Day advertisement and Father’s Day advertisement.
• Personal selling- OYO personal website, app.
• Public relations (PR)- includes giving added benefits (discounts, cashbacks, OYO
membership).

INTERNAL MARKETING (Enabling the Promise):


Occurs between OYO and its employees
• Ensure 100% of the team members are covered under all social security measures
• Periodic reach out to employees on benefits.
• Own the celebrative engagement activities across Hubs and work locations
• Act as a point of contact for benefit administration
• Salary offered 7 - 10 LPA

INTERRACTIVE MARKETING (Delivering the promise):


Occurs between employees and customers
• 24/7 toll-free customer care helpline
• Customer review section in OYO website that are responded immediately by OYO
employees.
• Hotel cancellation and refund facilities available.

Challenges faced by OYO
• Cases of room shifts
-One of the common complaints was shifting of rooms. Customers would say when they went
to the hotel they did not get the room they were promised.
• App Malfunctions
- Technical malfunctions and glitches that are common in most apps including OYO.
• Hotel staff behaviour
- Misbehavior by about 3.8% of hotel staffs under OYO with its customers. Fixing hidden
cameras in OYO rooms.
• Competitions posed by other companies- like Stayzilla, GoIbibo and Brevistay
