ECG SIGNAL PROCESSING TO

DETERMINE ARRHYTHMIA

OBJECTIVE
◦ Early risk identification of an unexpected sudden cardiac death (SCD) in a person who
is enduring harmful ventricular arrhythmias is exceptionally noteworthy for expanding
the endurance rate. For this purpose, we have presented an automated strategy for
prediction of SCD with a high-level accuracy by using measurable arrhythmic markers.
INTRODUCTION
◦ ECG Signal has a few Labels universally
accepted. The first and third peaks are
labelled as ‘P’ and ‘T’. Then the first and
second troughs are called ‘Q’ and ‘S’.
Then the biggest Peak is called R. This is
the peak that we work with.
◦ Using filters we remove these small peaks
and troughs and using discretisation and
we get the R-R interval. This R-R interval is
used to determine if a person has
arrhythmia or not.
◦ Now in order to determine Arrhythmia,
we need to use machine learning to
compare these values
METHODOLOGY
◦ The aim is to determine the R-R interval, that is, distance between 2 R peaks
◦ We also determine the average R-R distance in order to findthe heartbeat
rate.
◦ After determiming the minimum R-R distance, it is then compared with the
already pre-loaded samples using machine learning to declare if a person has
Arrhythmia or not.
FLOWCHART
ALGORITHM
◦ The samples are loaded which needs to be examined.
◦ Using low pass filter we remove the low frequency components of the signal.
◦ Using some specific normalizations, decide if it should be considered as ‘1’ or ‘0’
◦ Plot all the graphs in a signal graph window
◦ Determine all the distances and find the minimum of them and this will be called the R-R
interval
◦ Again a filter is applied and the final peaks are presented
◦ Then using formulae, minimum distance and the heartbeat rate is determined and printed
◦ Compare the values of R-R interval and using machine learning, decide if the person has
Arrhythmia or not.
◦ Repeat the steps for other sample as well.

CONCLUSION
◦ There are a lot of people who suffer from heart diseases. The main cause of heart
diseases is the irregular beating of the heart. Through this project we learnt how to
analyse and study ECG signals for any irregularities or anomalies which in turn lead to
various kinds of heart ailments. Using Machine Learning we made a model to predict
the heart disease based on the nature of the ECG signals in order to prevent them and
other such arrhythmic conditions.
