• For a 26 year old lady of weight 50 kg and Hb 8gm

calculate the iron requirement. How many
injections are needed to replenish the iron store?

• NOTE: 100mg of iron dextran contained in 2ml of

injection
DOSAGE CALCULATIONS
ANSWER - 7
• Iron requirement: 4.4 x body weight ( Kg) x Hb deficit (gm
/ dl )
• 4 .4 x 50 x (14-8) = 1320 mg of elemental iron
• 2ml contains = 100 mg of iron
• ? ml contains 1320 mg of iron

QUESTION - 10
• An adult male of weight 60 kg with cardiogenic shock
was given dopamine iv infusion of 10µgm / kg/ min.
• Calculate the number of drops per minute to be
infused.
• NOTE: Inj.Dopamine 10 ml (40mg/ml) 1ml = 20
drops
DOSAGE CALCULATIONS
ANSWER - 10
• 495 ml of 5% dextrose mixed with 5ml of inj. Dopamine
• 5 ml of inj. Dopamine contains = 40 x 5 = 200 mg dopamine
• 500 ml iv fluid contains = 200mg or 200,000 microgram of dopamine
• Infusion rate for this 60 kg weight man is = (10mcg X 60 / min) = 600 microgram
per minute
• Amount of fluid needed to infuse 600 µgm of dopamine = 500/ 200,000 x 600 =
1.5 ml
• 1 ml = 20 drops
• 1.5 ml = 20/ 1.5 = 30 drops
• Answer: 30 drops/ minute
