and good habits. It assists in developing
skilled, smart, happy, competent and
intelligent individuals.
 It is learning proper body movement to
develop the physical, mental emotional,
social and spiritual aspects an individual
through well-selected physical activities.
Meaning Of
Physical Education
PHYSICAL EDUCATION came from
the Latin words “physica” meaning
physics and “educatio” meaning the
training of the bodily organs and
powers with a view to the promotion
of hearts vigor. (IW 2004)
PHYSICAL EDUCATION is an integral
part of the educational program
designed to promote the optimum
development of an individual
physically, mentally, emotionally,
socially and spiritually through total
body movement in the performance
of properly selected physical
activities. (Andin, 1988)
Objectives Of
Physical Education
PHYSICAL EDUCATION as a part of
educational system strives to help or
facilitate the development of the
potentialities of an individual so that
he/she can attain total fitness and
enable him to enjoy a good and
useful life.
A. Physical Development

Focus is on the acquisition and


development of physical skills
which can increase one’s
capability to enjoy lifetime
recreational pursuit.
B. Mental Development

Through physical education


activities, you can acquire
knowledge and understanding of
rules and strategies of the games,
sports and dance instructions.
C. EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

It provides opportunities for self-


expression and emotional
mastery. It also develops the self-
confidence of an individual to
show his/her skills in this genre.
D. SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

It promotes an opportunity to be with


others. Through active participation
in the activities, positive and
desirable traits are developed like
cooperation, sportsmanship,
friendliness, good leadership, respect
for others and honesty in group
completion.
E. SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

It serves as a mediator to man in


his spiritual capacity and how he
works his faith through it.
