General Arrangement plan
• depicts the division and arrangement of the ship
• Provides Side view of the ship
• Plan view of the most important decks
• Cross sections
• Compartments such as tanks, E/R. holds
• Location of B/hds, arrangement of superstructure
• Basic data included in the shell expansion plan:
• Dimensions, Hold volumes, tonnage,deadweight,
engine power, speed and class.
Capacity plan
• The capacity plan shows a longitudinal and transverse profile of the vessel, and
diagrams of loadlines as well as the principal particulars, such as:
• Gross tonnage; net register tonnage;
• deadweight capacity on winter, summer and tropical loadline;
• deadweight and displacement scale on varying draught;
• MCTC andTPC for each draught;
• Loadline diagram deadweight or displacement can be found for any loadline at a
glance;
• grain and bale capacity of all cargo spaces in cubic feet or cubic metres and the
position of the centre of gravity of the space;
• bale capacity of all cargo spaces in cubic feet or cubic metres;
• capacity in cubic metres and tonnes of double bottom tanks, peaktanks,
deeptanks and fuel tanks and the positions of the centre of gravity of these spaces;
• capacity of all stores and refrigerating chambers.
Shell expansion plan
• A shell expansion drawing is made for every ship. Each individual strake of shell
plating can be identified and its individual size and thickness immediately
identified.
• Starting from the Keel strake K, the next strake A is the Garboard strake, then B, C,
D,etc outwards towards the turn of the bilge and upwards to the highest strake on
the shipside.
• The numbering of each plate starts from aft increasing towards the forward
end, e.g. : K-1, K-2, K-3, etc from the keel strake.
• Frame stations are shown, starting from the aft perpendicular and working
forward. The aft perpendicular is frame 0.
• The sheer strake is the first strake from the top of side shell.
• An oxter plate is a plate having double curvature, immediately below the transom
floor and running into the fore side of the stern post. This plate may often require
shaping after furnace heating.
• A coffin plate is the after plate of the keel which may dished to fit the stern frame
section.
Docking plan
• Provides the folowing:
• plan view, profile view and sectional view of
the ship.
• Detail and position of bottom plug.
• Detail of Docking bracket.
• Details impressed current cathodic protection.
• Anode location, painting area and principal
dimensions of the vessel.
