• Proteins are the large, complex molecules that are critical


for normal functioning of cells.

• According to Britannica.com, 16% of the human body is


made up of proteins.

• It is also estimated that a human body has the ability to


generate 2 million different types of proteins, coded by
only 20,000-25,000 of our genes. (Quora.com)
• Proteins are made up of smaller units
called amino acids, which are
building blocks of proteins.

• AMINO ACIDS are attached to one


another by peptide bonds forming a
long chain of proteins.

• There are 20 different amino acids


and by making different
combinations it can also make
different kinds of proteins.
• Proteins are synthesized by the RIBOSOMES.
• Function of proteins:
1. Help fight disease.
2. Build new body tissue.
3. Enzymes used for digestion and other chemical
reactions are proteins .
(Enzymes speed up the rate of a reaction)
4. Component of all cell membranes.
