INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS MACHINE LEARNING ?
Machine learning is an application of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides systems the ability to
automatically learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed. Machine
learning focuses on the development of computer programs that can access data and use it learn for
themselves.
INTRODUCTION

• It’s a timeless manufacturing goal: to produce high quality products at

minimum cost. Factory 4.0 is already demonstrating its value by
enabling manufacturers to reach this goal more successfully than
ever, and one of the core technologies driving this new wave of ultra-
automation is Industrial AI and Machine Learning.

• Data has become a valuable resource, and it’s cheaper than ever to
capture and store. Through the use of artificial intelligence,
specifically Process-Based Machine Learning, manufacturers can use
data to significantly impact their bottom line by greatly improving
production efficiency, product quality, and employee safety.
HOW IS ML CHANGING MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY
1) Optimized Semiconductor Manufacturing

McKinsey & Company sees great value in the use of

ML in improving semiconductor manufacturing yields
by up to 30%. The firm believes the company can do
so by reducing scrap rates and optimizing operations
with ML. The technology can use root-cause analysis
and reduce testing costs by streamlining
manufacturing workflows. Additionally, manufacturing
equipments that run on ML are projected to be 10%
cheaper in annual maintenance costs, while reducing
downtime by 20% and reducing inspection costs by
25%.
2) Quality Control and OEE
The term OEE refers to Overall Equipment Effectiveness,
which ML plays a key role in enhancing. This metric
measures the availability, performance and quality of
assembly equipment, which are all improved with the
integration of deep-learning neural networks that quickly
learn the weaknesses of these machines and help to
minimize them. German conglomerate Siemens has been
using neural networks to monitor its steel plants and
improve efficiencies for decades. The company says it
has invested roughly $10 billion in acquiring U.S.
software companies over the past decade, including the
addition of IBM’s Watson Analytics to enhance the
quality level of its operations.
3) Perfecting the Supply Chain
ML also plays an essential role in maximizing a
company’s value by improving its logistical solutions,
including asset management, supply chain management
and inventory management processes.
WHY ML IN MANUFACTURING ?
1)Machine maintenance
• Machine learning provides machine maintenance, also termed as preventative maintenance, which helps
manufacturers understand the failure of systems or abnormality in systems. This allows manufacturers to
detect which device could break in the future. It also enables manufacturers to avoid or prevent machinery
breakdowns.
2)Business productivity
Machine learning technique can learn and adapt to new environment over time. Moreover, it can
also help machines learn from their mistakes. With the collaboration of ML algorithms and tools, machines are
automated, which allows manufacturers to enhance their business capacity.
3)Product quality & Better insights
Machine learning algorithms can be used to determine which product has the highest impact.
Machine learning helps minimize errors and losses and eliminates unnecessary human effort, thereby
increasing the overall quality of products and services.
4)Customer relationship
Predictive analysis can be used to understand customers behavior towards a particular
brand or their interest it. Manufacturers can use this information about their customers and accordingly, send
them discounts.
ADVANTAGES & FUTURE GOALS
• Cost reduction through Predictive Maintenance. PdM leads to less maintenance activity, which
means lower labor costs and reduced inventory and materials wastage.
• Predicting Remaining Useful Life (RUL). Knowing more about the behavior of machines and
equipment leads to creating conditions that improve performance while maintaining machine
health. Predicting RUL does away with “unpleasant surprises” that cause unplanned downtime.
• Improved supply chain management through efficient inventory management and a well
monitored and synchronized production flow.
• Improved Quality Control with actionable insights to constantly raise product quality.
• Improved Human-Robot collaboration improving employee safety conditions and boosting overall
efficiency.
• Consumer-focused manufacturing – being able to respond quickly to changes in the market
demand.
APPLICATIONS
CONCLUSION
The area of manufacturing is undertaking considerable
changes due to the development of technologies and
the appearance of ML and AI solutions.
Along with forecasting possible risks, demand
and the requirements of the market, data analytics can
help to keep up with high-quality standards and quality
metrics. Moreover, incorporating smart data techniques
into manufacturing may help to forecast unexpected
wastes or problems. Big data can help to achieve many
of the business goals set by the manufacturers having
spending less time and money as ever before.
