CASE

A husband and wife, 39-year-old Paijo and 27-year-old Marni, had a big fight because Paijo suspected

next day residents were surprised by the discovery of Paijo hanging on the door frame of his room using
a rope. Residents report to the police. The police secured place of current event and forbade citizens to
touch or change the scene. Police also immediately contacted the forensic unit to conduct the crime
scene and declared Paijo died of asphyxia and an autopsy would be conducted.
Difficult word

➜ Forensics: the use of knowledge and skills in the

field of medical science for the benefit of law and
justice
➜ Autopsy: medical investigation of the corpse to
examine the cause of death But remember not to
overload your slides with content
➜ Asphyxia: the condition of lack of oxygen in the
body resulting in death

Concept Mapping
Signs of death on asphyxia

Internal Appearance
• Blood is darker and thinner
• Frothy in the airway
• Circulatory clogged
• Tardieu’s spot in the mucosa of organ, ex. Pericadium, visceral pleura
• Pulmonary edema
• Other signs, fracture of laryng, fracture of tounge bone

External appearance
• Cyanosis in lips, fingertips, nails
• Livor mortis
• Frothy in nose and mouth
• Tardieu’s spot in bulbi conjunctiva and palpebral
• signs of violence and resistance
Steps to perform an autopsy

 Preparation: check labels corpses, corpse cover, corpse wrap,

jewelry corpse, corpse's side, tanatologi changes.
 External examination
 Internal examination
 Documentation
Post Mortem Sign in Hanging Case

a. Cyanosis in the nails and lips due to

pressure on the neck that causes blockage
in the blood vessels
b. The protrusion of the eyeball because of a
blockage in the vein but the artery remains
free
c. Tardieu spot on the bulbar and palpebral
conjunctiva caused by venous rupture and
blood capillaries during blood veining
behind the vein in the head while arterial
blood flow is maintained. Petechiae in the
lower limb due to blood pooling is affected
by gravity and rupture of small blood
vessels. Petechiae can also be seen at the
base of the foot.
Cont...

d. The tongue is out of the mouth and the end

is dark.
e. Livor mortis on the extremities (due to
gravity or due to or hit a certain object)
f. Saliva that drips from the corner of the
lower lying lips for example at an angle
opposite to the location of the bonding
node.
g. Excretion of urine, stool or sperm occurring
in the relaxation stage during asphyxia
h. Bonding: usually V-shaped, brownish-red,
parchmentised, and the skin around the
trap appears to form a hollow.
Determine the Time Of death

Decrease in temperature
Bruises corpse
Stiff corpse
The process of decay
Another thing that was found at the scene or at autopsy

Crime scene’s finding

Date on postal mail / newspaperCircumstances
Degree of milk coagulation in bottles
Plant / grass under the bodies is pale, meaning more 8 days
Medicolegal Aspects

KUHAP, article 133 which states that in the case of an investigator for the interest of the judiciary in
handling a victim whether injury, poisoning or death allegedly as a criminal offense, he is authorized to
file a request for expert information to a judicial medical expert or physician and or other expert

KUHAP, Article 133 (paragraphs 2 and 3) states that the request for expert information as referred to in
paragraph (1) shall be made in writing, which is expressly stipulated in the letter for wound or coroner
examination and / or post-mortem examination
Islamic View

O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual
consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.
And whoever does that in aggression and injustice - then We will drive him into a Fire. And that, for Allah, is
[always] easy. QS Annisa 29-30
From the verse it can be concluded that Allah forbade suicide and it is clear that
suicide is a prohibited act and contrary to religious orders. People like this usually
feel desperate and do not appreciate the blessings of life that has been given by
Allah. Because of the magnitude of the sin caused by the act, the place of the
returning person who did it is hell.
