History

Starting April 1, 1999, the Indonesian

National Police were separated from the
Indonesian Armed Forces from ABRI and became
independent. The National Police Chief is elected
by the President based on the approval of the
House of Representatives and is directly
responsible to the President.

Indonesian policewomen. Among
the requirements: applicants must
be 17.5 to 22 years old, high
school graduates, unmarried, God-
fearing, at least 65 inches tall - and
they must be virgins.

police officers and civilian employees.

forces of the 17,000 islands which make up
Indonesia.
