ABSTRACT

 This project proposes an improved algorithm based on OpenCv libraries and Haar-
casade .
 There are several methods for measuring the drowsiness but this approach is
completely non-intrusive which does not affect the driver in any way, hence giving
the exact condition of the driver.
 The project will be an end-end model and is used for detection of drowsiness the per
closure value of eye is considered.

INTRODUCTION
Our project is based on IOT and Machine Learning.
Real time drowsiness behaviours which are related to fatigue are in the form of eye
closing, head nodding or the brain activity.
By continuously monitoring the eyes of the driver one can detect the sleepy state of
driver and a timely warning is issued.
This project proposes an improved algorithm based on OpenCv libraries and Haar-
casade .

Contd.

 The second technique is to measure physical changes (i.e. open/closed eyes to

detect fatigue) is well suited for real world conditions since it is non-intrusive by
using a video camera to detect changes.
By continuously monitoring the eyes of the driver one can detect the sleepy state of
driver and a timely warning is issued.

LITERATURE SURVEY

In this section, we have discussed various methodologies that have been proposed by
researchers for drowsiness detection and blink detection during the recent years.
 Detection and security system for drowsy driver.

Disadvantage:
1. It will not work with people having dark skin.

PROMS: Drowsy Driver Through Facial Movement Analysis[2]

1. The facial action coding system (FACS) is arguably the most widely used method
for coding facial expression in the behavioral sciences.
2. The system describes facial expressions in terms of 46 component movements.
Disadvantage:
2. There should not be any reflective object behind the driver.

Drowsy Driving Detection System for the prevention of Road Accidents [4]
1. At present time, drowsy driving has become one of the major issues of the traffic
collision.
2. Pi camera is used to capture the images of the drivers eye and the entire system is
incorporated using Raspberry-Pi.
Advantages:
1. Detects drowsiness.
2. Decreasing road accidents.
3. System implemented without using database storage.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Today drowsy driving is a serious problem that leads to thousands of accidents every
year.
This system mainly focuses on changes in eye movement, physiological measures or
driver performance measure.
Drowsiness is one of the factors for collisions.
This system is used to monitor the driver drowsiness.

9 Dept. of ISE, SKIT

OBJECTIVES

Our objective of the project is to ensure the safety system.

For enhancing the safety, we are detecting the eye blinks of the driver and estimating
the driver status and control the car accordingly.

FEASIBILITY STUDY

Operational Feasibility: The system uses improved algorithm such as OpenCv

libraries and Haar-casade .
Technical Feasibility: The existing system uses collaborative filtering as a primitive
method where the prediction is not accurate.
With the proposed system the problem statement is justified since it gives a better
accuracy.
Economic Feasibility: The project uses freely.

METHODOLOGY
The different types of methodologies have been developed to find out
drowsiness
 Physiological level approach: This technique is an intrusive method
electrodes are used to obtain pulse rate, heart rate and brain activity
information.
 Behavioral based approach: It this technique eye blinking frequency, head
etc. of a person is monitored through a camera and the person is alerted if any of
these drowsiness symptoms are detected.

The various technology that can be used are discussed as:

TensorFlow: IT is an open source software library for dataflow programming across
a rang of tasks.
Machine learning: Machine learning is the kind of programming which gives
computers the capability to automatically learn from data without being programmed.
OpenCV: OpenCV stands for open source computer vision.
Kivy: Kivy is an open source Python library for developing mobile apps and other
multitouch application software with natural user interface(NUI).

POSSIBLE OUTCOMES

The Experiment Result

Successful runtime capturing of video with camera.
Successful detection of face allowed by detection of eye.
The drowsy state of eye is not surrounded by circle or it is not detected, and message is
shown.

15 Dept. of ISE, SKIT

APPLICATIONS

Providing real time drowsiness feedback to the driver.

Providing performance feedback to a fatigue management program.
Providing regulatory compliance information to enforcement officials.

MERITS

Based on Real Activity

 Great for Discovery
Personalization
Always Up-To-Date
Reduced Organizational Maintenance
