Session 4
SZABIST
Today’s Session
• Content
• Doing Classroom Archaeology
• Research the Moen jo Daro site, focusing on the people involved with the site
(i.e., owners, workers, families).
• Take detailed notes and present your findings to the class.
• After presentation, now discuss who is and is not represented. Whose names
have/have not been recorded? Is the level of information available in the
historical record equal for owners/workers, men/women, adults/children, and
amongst different racial and ethnic groups?
• Discuss why some people are over/underrepresented. Does this create a bias in
the historical record?
• Examine artifacts and other archaeological information from the Moen jo Daro
site. Are the “invisible” or underrepresented groups visible in the archaeological
record? What are the biases of the archaeological record?
Reflection
• Write a summary of the information you gathered from the historical
and archaeological research.
• In your writing compare and contrast the information available in the
historical and archaeological records and assert how the most
complete picture of the past can be obtained.
Task 4: Lesson on Archaeology
• Prepare a 35 minutes lesson on Archaeology for Grade 6.
• Be as creative as possible.
