01 EVAPORATION

When the sun heats the ocean

and other bodies of water, the
water changes to gas
02 TRANSPIRATION

Process where moisture is carried through

plants from roots to small pores of leaves
and changes to vapor.
03 CONDENSATION

Process in which water vapor in

the air is changed into liquid water.
04 PRECIPITATION

Any type of water that forms in the Earth's

atmosphere and then drops onto the
surface of the Earth. Precipitation can be
rain, snow, sleet, or hail
05 RUNOFF

Flow of water that occurs when excess

stormwater, melt water or other sources
flows over the Earth's surface. It is an excess
water that cannot be absorbed by the
ground.
06 INFILTRATION AND PERCOLATION

Infiltration - process in which water enters the soil

Percolation - process in which water flows through

the soil due to the force of gravity and loses
gravitational energy when it percolates through the
soil
07 GROUNDWATER

The water beneath the Earth's

surface. it can be stored in a long
period of time in an underground
layer called aquifer.
07 GROUNDWATER

There are 2 main types of Aquifers:

1. Unconfined aquifer - found near the surface. It collects

rainwater just from the land above it.
2. Confined aquifer - bound by impermeable top and
bottom layers of rocks. It is below the land surface that
is saturated with water. It gets supply through the
recharge zone.
08 WATER TABLE

The top of water surface of groundwater that is

at atmospheric pressure. It is the boundary,
underground between the area that is saturated
with water and the area above it that is
unsaturated. Where the soil and rocks are
permanently soaked
