OFFICE NSTP-MAPUA OFFICE • Supervises the implementation of the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) and the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). • Its implementation is governed by R.A. 9163 of 2001. MAPUA-CWTS OFFICE • Serves as the coordinating body composed of MAPUA-CWTS Program Coordinator, Staff, and Facilitators. HISTORY OF MAPUA-CWTS: 2001 to 2017 • 2nd semester of A.Y. 2001-2002: NSTP in Mapua was initiated Students were given option to choose between ROTC and CWTS in the NSTP program. • Students were given an NSTP Workbook regarding the principles of community service, nationalism, and environmental protection. • Student activities centered on socio-civic efforts: clean-up drive, bloodletting, and Alay Lakad. • Training on safety were also taught: firedrill and basic life support (BLS) • Cultural and recreational activities include: Mini Olympics, play viewing, and orchidarium HISTORY OF MAPUA-CWTS • A.Y. 2003-2004: Community Organizing and Project Development were introduced to students. • Silver Flame of Virtue for the Kabalikat Awards 2003 – a nationwide search for the outstanding STET-VIP NSTP community project. • MAPUA-CWTS received the said award for its entry: a mural in Asamba, Project 8, Quezon City. HISTORY OF MAPUA-CWTS • A.Y. 2005-2006: MAPUA underwent curriculum innovation • It established the Service Components as direction of community initiatives and the three (3) Support and Delivery System (SDS) as its implementing arm. • The Community Profile of selected barangays in Pandacan served as the primary basis for all CWTS endeavor. HISTORY OF MAPUA-CWTS • A.Y. 2006-2007: Relevant societal concerns were discussed to create awareness and civic consciousness. • Tools for issue analysis, Cause and Effect Wheel and SWOT Analysis, were used to assess community needs and concerns. HISTORY OF MAPUA-CWTS • A.Y. 2007-2008: project proposal presentation was executed to uplift the quality of projects being carried out in the community.
• 2nd term of A.Y. 2009-2010: the SERVICE Workbook was developed,
which contains situational and community cases to enhance skills in case analysis. HISTORY OF MAPUA-CWTS • In 2012: academic community had class suspensions due to unfavourable weather conditions and epidemic. • The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) Scare that spread in various colleges and universities compelled the academic community to have long period of class cancellations as a caution to ensure safety of students. • Online learning platforms served as a resolution to class suspensions. • Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment (MOODLE) provided the CWTS classes the needed contact hours and classroom dynamics even without the actual classroom presence. HISTORY OF MAPUA-CWTS • In 2015: Blackboard was used as online learning platform. • In 2017: Office started to conduct basic disaster training such as bandaging, rope-tying, and rappelling. Facilitators and students experienced actual rappelling while being monitored by a trained personnel of AFP. MAPUA-CWTS Vision Statement • Vision: the MAPUA-CWTS shall be the center of excellence in values education through the promotion of civic consciousness, civic responsibility, and holistic development of individuals to become productive members of the society. MAPUA-CWTS Mission Statement • Mission: The MAPUA-CWTS are: • To motivate, train, and organize students as catalysts of change in the community; • To harness and maximize the technical expertise and interests of different schools and department and students’ courses to benefit the underprivileged and economically poor sectors of the society, and; • To develop each student to posses a high level of social awareness. COURSE DESCRIPTION: NSTP • NSTP 100: classroom-based discussion that includes common module phase for all NSTP students. • Topics under NSTP 100 include: 1. NSTP Law 2. Discussion on the Human Person 3. The Filipino Value System 4. Leadership 5. Disaster Preparedness, Awareness, and Mangement 6. Substance Abuse Education COURSE DESCRIPTION: NSTP-CWTS • CWTS 101: Introduces MAPUA-CWTS and promotes MAPUA-CWTS Dimensions of Development • CWTS 102 • Two-part program that re-introduces the NSTP-SERVICE components of CWTS Dimension of Development • Part 1 of the hands-on application about project preparation, planning and implementation at assigned adopted communities. • CWTS 103: Part 2 of the hands-on application CWTS Student Attendance • Must be at the class on time. • More than 20% of absences (or, more than 2 absences): student will be not be allowed to continue the course; final grade will be 5.00 • 15-minutes late is considered tardy. • If a student has been tardy 3 times, that is 1 absent. • Students who have failed to meet with the class and facilitator during a community-based activity will not be allowed to follow to the said area.
