Introduction
• RED TACTON is a new human area networking technology that uses
the surface of human body as a safe, high speed network
transmission path.
• RED TACTON uses the minute electric field emitted on the surface of
human body.
• It is developed by Japanese technology NTT lab.
History
• The concept of intra body communication was first proposed by IBM
in 1996.
• The IBM technology had two limitations:
1. Operating range through the body was limited to a few tens of cm.
2.The top communication speed was only 40Kbit/s!!
• These limitations were overcome by NIT(Nippon Telegraph and
Telegram Coperation) located in Tokya,Japan by using Photonic
electric field sensors and finally in 2005 they came up with a HAN
technology called “RED TACTON”.
What RED TACTON mean?

• Red : A warm color to emphasis warm and cordial communications.

• TACTON : TOUCH-ACT-ON
Action triggered by Touching.
Why RED TACTON?

• The short-range wireless communications namely Bluetooth and IR

have some problem like packet collision and dimensionality of beam
between the terminals respectively.

• Human area networks would solve all the problems including

throughput reduction, low security, and high network setup costs.
Working Principle
• Red Tacton relies upon the principle that the optical properties of an
electro-optic crystal can vary according to the changes of a weak
electric field.
What does RED TACTON need?
A Transceiver….. .
Block Diagram of Transceiver
Working Procedure
• Transmitting receiver creates a change in the field.
• Some field from human body dissipates into Earth.
• Electric field is received using sensing technology.
• Receiving transceiver recognizes the changes in the electric field.
• Sensing technology measures the weak fields induced.
• Electro – Optical crystal uses laser to convert and read the signal.
HUMAN AREA NETWORK
• In addition to WANs(internet) and Land, there are applications best
served by Human Area Netwoks (HANs) that connect the last meter.
• Human society is entering an era of ubiquitous computing, where
everything is networked.

PROTOTYPES
NTT has made three types of protocols :
Red Tacton transceiver
●PC card type

●Hub type ●box type

Applications
• Elimination of human error : An alarm sound automatically
to avoid accidental medicine injection.

• Marketing applications : Touch advertising and receiving

information.
• Personalization of mobile phones : Just touching a phone makes it
ur own.

• Personalization of automobiles : Just sitting in the seat triggers the

car to load all its presets, just the way u like.
Intuitive Operations

Touch printer to print

Instantaneous private network via

personal handshake
Security Applications
●User verification and lock management at entrances

User verification and unlocking with just

a
Touch

● Connect to network just by putting laptop on the table

Advantages

• Data transfer is faster and easier through this technology.

• Data loss during transfer is less.
• Use of minimum amount of power(of some malli volt range).
• Security is more.
Disadvantages
• It has no compelling applications.
• too costly.
• It can be useful within her centimeters only.
Conclusion

• We conclude that, when we compare Red Tacton with other

technology present today it can give a better performance over
others.
• And we can say that to connect the network with in short distances
Red Tacton is best.
• In this technology there is no problem of hackers as our body is itself
a media.
