WELCOME TO

SCIENCE CLASS!
LET’S REVIEW!
In today’s lesson, we will learn that all
the organisms and components in an
ecosystem are interconnected to each
other and to their environment.
Today, we will learn how living
and non-living things in
tropical rainforests interact.
LESSON OBJECTIVE
•Discuss the interactions among
living and non-living things in
tropical rainforests
TROPICAL RAINFOREST
• Tropical rainforests are found in the equatorial region of the earth.
TROPICAL RAINFOREST

• Known for its trees, frequent rain, rich biodiversity,

humidity and hot weather .

• Rainforests are called “cradle of diversity” because it is

the home of 40 - 50 % of all living organisms on Earth
even though it only covers 5 % of Earth’s surface.
TROPICAL RAINFOREST

LET’S LEARN SOME MORE!

MOTIVE QUESTIONS
1. What is symbiotic relationship?
2. How do organisms in rainforests in a
mutualism relationship interact with
each other? In commensalism? In
parasitism?
SYMBIOTIC ORGANISM ORGANISM
RELATIONSHIP 1 2
mutualism benefited benefited
commensalism benefited unaffected
parasitism benefited harmed
GENERALIZATION
How do organisms in the following
symbiotic relationship interact?
 Mutualism
 Commensalism
 Parasitism
Remember:
Mutualism is a relationship where _____ organisms
_____ from each other.

In commensalism, one organism benefits from

the interaction while the other is ________.
In parasitism, one organism benefits from the
interaction while the other is _______.
GROUP ACTIVITY

DIRECTION:
Each group will be given a task card with
a pair of organisms that live in tropical
rainforests. Discuss which symbiotic
relationship happens between these
organisms and how they interact with each
other.
LET’S THINK ABOUT THIS

Parasites are organisms that

feed on another organism’s
body. In what ways do
humans act like a parasite to
another person? Is it okay to
be a “human parasite”? Why
or why not?
EVALUATION

In your learning journal, discuss

in your own words how
organisms with the following
symbiotic relationship interact:
1. Mutualism
2. Commensalism
3. Parasitism
Use the following format:
Mutualism is a relationship where _____ organisms
_____ from each other.

In commensalism, one organism benefits from

the interaction while the other is ________.
In parasitism, one organism benefits from the
interaction while the other is _______.
