do want to see offenders around them (Worrall, 2014).

Public views community based programs as not punitive enough.

Community correctional program
A community service program to serve as an alternative to sentencing
It involves suspending the jail sentences for minor offenders in favour of community
service
Offenders spend whole days working at a rehabilitation centre accompanied by community
correctional officers
They are guided and counselled and involved in community work
Their behaviours and conduct in the community is monitored for a certain period of time.
Those who have transformed have their sentences dismissed while those who haven’t are
sentenced to imprisonment.
Why I designed the program
I designed the program in a way that the offenders reports to the correctional centre and
are supervised as they provide community service.
The offenders are given off 2 days in a week and over the weekend so that they can
engage in economic activities and fend for themselves and their families.
The suspended sentences motivate the offenders to adhere to the rules of the correctional
programs and transform their behavior to avoid going to jail.
This programs is punitive at the same time provides the offenders with necessary
support to help them transform.
The guidance and counseling services enable the offenders to be advised on the need of
behavioral change and how to relate with the community members to avoid troubles.
What the program will accomplish
The main aim of this program is to punish the offenders by giving them light
sentences and to give them a chance to change instead of being given jailed
sentences.
To punish the minor offenders .
To use the minor offenders to benefit the society through community services.
To give offenders chance to show that they can correct their behaviors without
being locked up in prison.
To reduce congestion in the prisons.
