WHAT IS THE WORKING PRINCIPLE OF HYDRA STEP

(DRUM LEVEL INDICATOR).

Answer - Its works on the principle of resistivity. The

discrimination between water & steam is based on the
significant difference in resistivity between the two states
over the saturation range.when a voltage applied to the
tip, conduction takes place between tip and inside wall of
column.when the resistance of probe is less than 100K its
represents the water % in drum and if it is greater than
100K its represents the % steam in drum.

What is deaeration process?

 The removal of dissolved gases from boiler feedwater is

an essential process in a steam system. The presence of
dissolved oxygen in feedwater causes rapid localized
corrosion in boiler tubes. ... This mechanical process is
known asdeaeration and will increase the life of a
steam system dramatically.
What is the purpose of a deaerator?

 The purpose of a deaerator is to reduce dissolved gases,

particularly oxygen, to alow level and improve a plant's
thermal efficiency by raising the water temperature. In
addition, deaerators provide feedwater storage and
proper suction conditions for boiler feedwater pumps.
How does a boilerr feed
water system work?
 Boiler feedwater is an essential part
of boiler operations. The feed water is put into the
steam drum from a feed pump. In the steam drum
the feed water is then turned into steam from the
heat. ... From the condenser it is then pumped to the
deaerated feed tank.
What are the non
condensable gases in steam?

When the boiler water changes state (liquid to vapor), the

non-condensable gasesare released and carried with the steam into
the plant. Steam will release the latent energy to the process and condense
down to condensate in the heat transfer area, but the non-condensable
gases do not condense.
 Why do we purge with nitrogen?
 To prevent oxidation, flow dry nitrogen through the
tube during brazing. Nitrogen is inert, (non- reactive),
and will displace the oxygen to prevent scale formation.
Nitrogen is typically introduced into the system
throught the Schrader valve (after removing the core),
or other system opening.
Gland Exhauster System (
Gland steam condenser )
Gland Exhauster System (
Gland steam condenser )
 :

Gland exhauster system prevents steam from escaping

into the turbine by establishing a sub-atmospheric
pressure. Gland exhauster system condense the steam
which comes from the seal steam system by condensate
water through heat exchanger and discharges the
resultant condensate to a suitable drain.

Seal Steam System of Steam Turbine :

 A steam sealing system is required to seal the turbine

end packings so that vacuum may be established within
the turbine prior to startup.
During startup and normal operation, sealing must be
maintained so that air does not leak into the sub-
atmospheric section of the turbine and excess steam in
the high pressure section of the machine does not blow
out.
At startup sealing is achieved by introducing steam
which comes from auxiliary steam system.
During normal operation when steam turbine load
increases, over 25 MW of full load self steam system will
start then sealing achieved by self steam system
