WHAT IS PERSONAL
RELATIONSHIP?
- Even before language was invented, prehistoric humans were
already interacting through many other forms of behavior.

- This interaction was necessary for the survival of the group

where an individual belonged.

- SURVIVAL was the primary reason why human beings have

the fundamental need to belong.

5
- The absence of CLOSE RELATIONSHIPS can produce a
profound negative effect on an individual who is deprived
of it, such as:
- FEELING WORTHLESS
- POWERLESS
- ALIENATED

6
How do we define RELATIONSHIP?

“The way in which two or more people, groups, countries

etc., talk to, behave toward, and deal with each other.” It
extended to include “the way in which two or more people
or things are connected”

(Merriam-Webster’s Learner Dictionary)

What is PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP?

with a person and which can only have meaning to this
person.

8
“Don't rush into any kind
of relationship. Work on
yourself. Feel yourself,
experience yourself and
love yourself. Do this
first and you will soon
attract that special
loving other.”
Russ Von Hoelsche

How are attachments are developed?
- The very first meaningful relationship every human being
encounters is with one’s mother.
- A careless and non-caring pregnant mother can affect the child
in the womb, which may leave PSYCHOLOGICAL and EMOTIONAL
SCARS even before the child is born.
- At the moment of birth when the child is laid beside the mother
to be fed and cuddled, bonding occurs, and the infant develops an
attachment.

AVOIDANT ATTACHMENT
-when the primary caregiver is cold and detached, and even unresponsive to a
child’s needs..
-This style of attachment in infancy will oftentimes experience unstable
relationships in the future.

13
What drives attraction?

-Often understood as based on Physical Appearance but could only

be true to some certain extent.

- In the British Broadcasting Company’s (BBC) states that

“attraction is the first stage in a continuum of stages that lead to
intimacy and commitment.”
