Objectives
Students will be able to:

● Briefly define what the “interaction”


component of the SIOP Model contains.
● Briefly define what the “practice and
application” component of the SIOP Model
contains.
● List two ways prospective teachers can
incorporate the “interaction” and “practice
and application” into their lessons.

What is “Interaction”
Interaction- “communication or direct involvement
with someone or something”
● Teacher-to-Student
● Student-to-Student

Why?
● ELL’s need opportunities to practice communication and
interact with other students within the classroom.
● Creates an active learning environment with opportunities
for teacher clarification.

○ Doing group work, then partner work, and finally
individual work
Application (Cont.)
● Promotes social interaction
○ Promotes language development
○ Ex: Small group discussions, partner work, etc.
● Model correct English after an error
○ Instills appropriate language usage
Integration of Language
● Allows for the integration of language skills
○ Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening
○ Practice in one area, helps develop the other
