Before We Begin...
Brief Background of the Cold War
The Cold War was a long period of tension between the democracies of the Western
World and the communist countries of Eastern Europe. The west was led by the
United States and Eastern Europe was led by the Soviet Union. These two countries
became known as superpowers. - Via the Ducksters
How was the cold war resolved
The United States and Soviet Union came to a consensus determining that
nuclear warfare would not benefit anyone.

Atomic era
The atomic era was the era that came after the detonation of the first
nuclear/atomic bomb in 1945. During the era, it was seen as a great technological
advancement. By the sixties, however, people soon began to realize that it could
mean death of the world as they knew it due to the extreme power of atomic
bombs.
How does it relate to the book?
The atmosphere of fear and repression left over by world war II and other world
events coupled with this new technology allowed the government to manipulate
the vulnerable and hysterical public in many ways. (ex. Burning books, which is
what f451 is about.) The book took place during this era.
Soviet Missiles in Cuba
Realistic dramatization of the United States of America finding out that the
Russians have added missiles to Cuba.
John F. Kennedy

John F. Kennedy was the US president thrust into the Cold War and Cuban
Missile Crisis. He negotiated with Soviet leaders and the crisis was averted days
before a planned US Invasion.

armas, valientes, corred!

Contemplad nuestras huestes triunfantes, Contemplad a ellos caídos. Por cobardes huyen vencidos; Por
valientes, supimos triunfar!

valientes, corred!
