Luster is the way light interacts with the
surface of a crystal, rock, or mineral. The
word traces its origins back to the Latin lux,
meaning "light", and generally implies
radiance, gloss, or brilliance. A range of terms
are used to describe luster, such as earthy,
metallic, greasy, and silky
It is the visual and tactile (how it
feels) quality of a surface.
The coarse-grained, fine-grained,
and glassy are all descriptions of a
rock's texture.
It is the spatial dimensions, proportions,
magnitude, or bulk of something.
-Rocks can grow stronger and heavier.
Also, a rock's density may increase if it
undergoes pressure — packing the same
amount of material into a smaller space
(volume). "This makes a piece of the
metamorphic rock feel heavier than the
same-sized piece of the original rock,"
It is the amount or quantity of heaviness or
mass.
Rocks can be light or heavy depending on the
minerals
-it can be heavy if it has precious minerals in it.
-Light if it has no precious mineral in it.
It is the quality of an object or substance with respect to light
reflected off the object.

Why Rocks have different colors?

Rocks are different colors because they have minerals. The
color of the minerals in the rock can turn it brown, red, green or
other colors.
How rocks change its colors?
Some rocks consist of just one type of mineral, but
most rocks contain a few different types of minerals joined
together. If that mineral combines with impurities or other
minerals, its atomic structure can change, thereby affecting what
wavelengths of light are reflected and
possibly changing its color.
 It is the quality or state of being hard.
Within in your group, think of a rock and
identify it uses during ancient time and
today’s generation.
The group will be given only 3 minutes
and let them present it in the class.
 Rocks are a source of minerals such as gold, diamond, limestones and petroleum.
 Rocks are used in construction
 For manufacturing substances and making medicine
 and for the production of gas
 Rocks are also extremely vital to scientists as they provide clues about the Earth’s
history.
Use the following materials:
 Hand lens/ Magnifying glass
 3 rocks sample
 Nail
 Flashlight
 Activity sheet
Within your group, identify the 3 rock samples given to you according to its physical
properties by performing the following:

Group 1- Sing It
Group 2- Dance It
Group 3- Act It
Group 4- Draw It
Group 5- Speak It (Spoken Poetry)
 Note: The teacher will choose 3 best performances and will be given a reward.
