MEANING…
Conditional sentence is an English
sentence form to express a presupposition
(Pengandaian). In Indonesian, we often say
sentences whose purpose is to assume
something that has happened or will happen.
Conditional sentences have two parts,
namely if clause and main clause.
 Type1
Describe the supposing situation where the situation
only exists in our imagination, not real. The if clause is
accompanied by simple past sentences.
Formula : If + S + were / verb 2 + O
S + would + base verb + O

o Example : If you were on an escape from police,

you would get caught right away.
 Type2
Describe the condition of the past and it is not
possible because it has passed. The if clause is
accompanied by past perfect sentences.
Formula : If + S + had + past participle + O,
S + would + have + past participle + O.

o Example : If we had known that the product

was fake, we would not have bought it.
 Type3
Describe predictions about what will happen in the
future. The if clause is accompanied by simple
present sentences.
Formula : If + S + be / verb 1 + O,
S + will / be going to + base form + O.

o Example : If tomorrow does not rain, I am not

going to use my car.
In conditional sentence type2, “had” can be placed
at the beginning by eliminating “if”, or referred to
as an inversion form.

o Example :
 If my parents had been in Bandung, I would have
visited them everyday.
 Had my parents been in Bandung, I would have
visited them everyday.
