COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Community development is the process of solving various problems prevailing in
the society by coming together and forming a team and working together to take
actions on the problem. It refers to some of the activities which are carried out by
some of the individual volunteers or by a group of volunteers to solve the
problems like child labour, women empowerment, societal problems etc or any
other problem which is faced by a large number of people in the society.
Community development is a operation wherein all the people of the community
come together to take a collective action and provide solution to common
problems. Sometimes its not about developing but re-developing individuals and
communities that have been disenfranchised.

VISION AND MISSION
VISION
The Paraspara trust’s vision is to make the society non – exploitative society i.e. a society which
does not take an unfair advantage of another person or group.
MISSION
The mission of the Paraspara trust :
•To eradicate child labour
•Promote child rights with the participation of the alienated groups among the children, women
and communities through the rights based approach.
OBJECTIVES
•Eradication of child labour system and to bring about child labour free slums / wards .
•To enhance child rights.
•To ensure quality education is accessible to all children.
•To start local groups / associations to take up community issues and to meet the basic
requirements of the community.
•Organizing resources to amplify to the family income in order to protect the rights of the children.
•To create facilities to access resource for the alienated groups.
•To make the communities more stronger and confident with awareness programmes, training and
exposure.

CONTRIBUTION
The organization provided the opportunity to volunteer in the different centers of organization.
The contribution as volunteer includes:

FINANCE DEPARTMENT
•The Paraspara trust does not have a proper financial department the accounts are
handled by the manager and the staff.
•Some of the major functions performed are managing the books if accounts,
payroll and other payments, preparation of annual reports, budgeting, allocation
and proper utilization of funds.
•The auditing is done by Y.V. Jagannadha Rao and Company.
•The funds are received from the government, from other agencies and through
donations.
MARKETING DEPARTMENT
The organization does not have proper marketing department all the
activities are handled by the staff
The main function of the marketing department is to create
awareness about the trust
They use promotional techniques like distribution of pamphlets,
street plays, brochure, banner publicity and through website.
They also publish their annual reports on their website and to the
donors which builds goodwill and good reputation for the
organization.
HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT
The HR department takes care of the various projects, recruitment and selection process for
internship and volunteering and staff recruitment. And also provides training to the employees
and volunteers.

The main function of the HR department of the organization is to ensure that the right people are
appointed for the right job at the right time and also keep the workers & the volunteers motivated
to work.

The HR department of the organization is properly coordinated with every worker & member
working in best of its ability to fulfill their responsibilities.
SWOC ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
•It is a well-established organization recognized and honored by the Government of Karnataka
•The organization is accredited with the “Credibility Alliance” for the Transparency and
Accountability
•The trust is supported by CRY ( Child Rights and You) and ActionAid
•The trust has women teams who run particular units where they look into the cases of the
domestic and social violence faced by the women
•The trust has partnership with corporates like Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Gold Man Sachs etc.
•Paraspara trust is a member of the Federation of Bengaluru Street and Working Children
Association.

WEAKNESS
•No proper departments exist
•The number of employees has reduced from 130 to 40-50 employees
•Funds are received irregularly
•Recruitment and selection process are not well defined
•Lack of marketing strategy
•The infrastructure of some of the centers are not well maintained

OPPORTUNITIES
•Implementing smart teaching techniques
•Possibilities of getting more response from the corporate donors
•Support from the government will help the trust to partner with other
organization
•Development of the infrastructural facilities.
•Possess the potential of expansion to various other states
•Can widen the scope by setting up more centers

CHALLENGES
•Restrictions from the government
•Lack of participation and donation from the general public
•To rescue children from Illegal adoption
•Irregularity of the parents to attend the follow up programs
•Competitions from similar NGO
FINDINGS
•The trust initially started with sixty five full time staff members, ten part time staff members, and
fifteen volunteers.
•Eradication of child labour was the main aim of the trust and all other programmes were an addition to
the aim of safeguarding child rights.
•In the past few years the trust has released about 1850 children from child labour and has enrolled them
to schools, colleges and some children have reached their home in various districts of Karnataka and
various other states in India.
•The services provided to children are in the form of bridge schools, transit schools and baale a home for
street girl children.
•The trust does not have organized departments
•The organization is accredited with the “Credibility Alliance” for the Transparency and Accountability
•The Government of Karnataka has honoured the trust with the “State Award 2006”
SUGGESTIONS
•The infrastructure of some of the centres need to be improved.
•The organization needs to have specific departments so that they
can work in a systematic manner.
•The organization can take more efforts to find sources for funds.
•The trust must regularly update their website with recent
achievements, activities conducted, recruitment information and
annual reports.
CONCLUSION
The organization is trying its best to eradicate the child labor system and to rehabilitate the
children and to help them enter the main stream.

The organization also provides vocational training to the women to help them earn their living

The greatest lesson learnt by volunteering in this organization is the importance of personal
contribution, importance of family, and the quality of sense of responsibility.

Though it was a part of the curriculum it actually lead to the understanding for the need of the
community development and also to understand the joy of serving of others.
