ARGUMENTATIVE TEXTS
It is a text not only giving readers
information but also presenting
an argument to show in which
side (pro or con) the writer is.

The objective of writing an


argumentative text is to persuade
the opposing side to adopt new
beliefs.
Generic Structure

PARAGRAPH 1
 It is the introduction paragraph consisting a
thesis statement.
 In an argumentative text, it states the issue/
premise the essay will address.
 It also states your opinion in the matter (pro
or con) and outlines what you are going to
write in the next paragraph(s) to support your
opinion.

PARAGRAPH 2 (AND 3)
 They are the body paragraphs.
 In an argumentative text, they support
arguments for your position.
 You need to show why you are in a particular
side by explaining your arguments clearly as
well as giving a real life or made up example
illustrating.

PARAGRAPH 4
 It is the concluding paragraph.
 It rephrases and sums up your arguments
that have been presented.
 It may make a prediction or a
recommendation based on what you have
said as well.
