Introduction to Module
What will we be covering in weeks 1-6
• Week 1: knowing your responsibilities as a student
• Week 2: developing essential academic skills for higher
education and why it is important to use and expand
on these skills
• Week 3: Researching, understanding and using
resources available to you effectively
• Week 4: critical analysis, case studies, referencing
• Week 5: Multiple choice in class test
• Week 6: Presentation skills, team building and making
the most of team work
What will we be covering in weeks
7-12
• Week 7: time management, managing your studies,
factors which influence your studies
• Week 8: In class group presentations 20% of your final
mark
• Week 9: Report writing and essay writing
• Week 10: Self-reflection (self-efficacy) and personal
development plans
• Week 11: Re-evaluation of the skills developed and
how to develop and use them in the future
• Week 12: Preparing for the final assignment,
developing your business writing skills

• To provide a transition between the work you
have undertaken previously - whether as a
student or an employee – and university
• To identify the skills you will need to develop
to enable you to get the best from university
• To understand, develop and apply the
necessary academic skills needed to
undertake and complete successfully
academic assignment
