For actions that happen before the moment
we are speaking. For actions that are
SIMPLE PAST previously finished.

They usually go together with expressions


such as “yesterday”, “the day before
Subject + Verb conjugated in the yesterday”, “ last night”, “last week”, “two
past tense+ Complements. weeks ago”, “last month”, “last year”

The students talked in class last week (talk). The students didn’t talk in class last week (talk).
Our teacher started Unit 9 two weeks ago (start). Our teacher didn’t start Unit 9 two weeks ago
You went home yesterday (go). (start).
They did homework the day before yesterday You didn’t go home yesterday (go).

(do).
Last month I shopped at the mall (shop).

Simple Past
The Simple Past can be used to describe a habit which stopped
in the past.

Also, the Simple Past can be used to describe a habit which


stopped in the past.

Examples :

I visited my parents last month.


My father worked for a French company.
