History of IITs
 The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are autonomous
public institutes of higher education, located in India. They
are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 which
has declared them as institutions of national importance.
 There are twenty three (23) IITs as on date (i.e., 2017) and
they are located at different cities in INDIA.
 Total number of students (UG, PG, PhD, PDF) is 70000
(approximately).
 Total number of academic staffs: 5000 (approximately).
