BAGH PRINT – traditional handicraft practised under bagh cluster of

central India. Bagh printing is a textile decorating craft using natural

and traditional implemented ideas of ancient chipa’s who were
migrated to village bagh in 1960’s. Natural handmade colours and
process came across this technique to complete the product. printing
on the fabric with wooden blocks is done by hand and further
processing of washing under river water are the significant. dyeing of
cloth under boiling water with natural herbal dyes is responsible for
the perfect colour extraction on organic fabrics.

1. Kharoni Process
Materials after cutting in different shape and size is dipped under the
liquid mixture of castor oil and sea salt (sanchora). This is the traditional
process to extract the natural base / whiteness of the materials. the
process known as KHARONI KARNA is very important under this craft
this gives the exact dimension of the materials. Material under this
liquid remained stored for whole night along with goat excrete (waste).
This gives the softness and colour boosting capability and hence fine
lustred material is obtained.

2. Harda Process
Harda is a type of natural treatment which involves fabric treated gently
with harda (haritaki) paste the process done before printing of fabric is
must for the characterised traditional method should be obeyed. it is
the specific process among the completion of product.

3. Printing Process
It is a traditional process using natural hand made colours made by us a
traditional method printing is the most significant process of the craft
which is done fully by hand through highly skilled artisans for this hand
made tiny designed wooden blocks are used. Natural colours putted
under the wooden tray and block smoothly dipped inside the tray and
printed on the fabric which is spread on the big stone table which is
covered with 7 layered natural jute to make the smooth and hard
surface better and sharp printing which is lying on the ground. Printing
are of mainly two colours red and black red is made up of natural alum
and black is made up of iron corrosion and jaggery solution. This colours
on printing red appears as pink and black appears is grey but after final
process this becomes red and black.

4. Bichliya Process
After printing is done on the fabric material is processed through the
river water this process is known as Bichliya. Material after printing is
kept for 7-15 days which allows the material to absorb the colour
particles and then taken to the river and dipped in to the river water in
once at the opposite direction of flow of the river water. unnecessary
particles on the upper most layer of the material flows out along with
the force of the river water and then material after drying is processed
to the next traditional step after 2-3 days.

5. Bhatti(Dyeing) Process
Water in a big copper pot is heated near about 150 degree temperature
and materials is stirred up and down along with Dhawda flower &
Elizarin. This gives the real and natural colour of alum and iron particles
which are printed on material. Material is stirred for 2 hours under that
process and then treated gently with wooden sticks after blowing real
colour material is putted in to normal water in a big tank material is
now ready for next process.

6. Washing Process
After Bhatti, washed under normal water and then dyed in the river
stones. After drying material is passed to the checking section
