Rubber

1. Rubber is an isoprene polymer and is also a hydrocarbon with the formula monomer (C5H8) n
this substance is generally derived from the sap of one of the plants, especially from rubber
trees (havea brasilensis)

2. This sap is obtained after a rubber tree that has aged enough in the squeak so that the sap
comes out, the sap that comes out is often referred to as latex (natural rubber). Then processed
into various kinds of rubber products.

3. Often with the development of science and technology today, natural rubber can be
synthesized, but the use of natural rubber can not be replaced by synthetic rubber.
Rubber classification
Natural Rubber Synthesis Rubber
Natural rubber
This natural rubber comes from the para tree (Hevea brasiliensis).
The botanical structure of the rubber plant is structured as follows:
Divisi : Spermatphyta
Subsidi : Angiospermae
Kelas : Dicotyledonae
Ordo : Euphorbiaceae
Genus : Hevea
Spesies : Hevea brasiliensis
Natural Rubber Characteristics
Natural rubber is hard and elastic, but will soften and sticky when it is
at high temperatures and hardens and is dense at low temperatures
The color is brownish, translucent or half translucent, with a specific
gravity of 0.91-0.93
The gravity specification is 0.915
Has a high elastic power
Natural Rubber Characteristics
Has resistance to friction and low tensile strength
Cannot dissolve in water, acetone and alkali
Soluble natural ether solution, carbon disulphide, carbon tetrachloride,
turpentine, and kerosene
Natural rubber can be vulcanised
Natural Rubber
Vulcanization Of Natural Rubber
The work of the sulfur bridge is to hold the poimer chain so that when it
is stretched it does not break easily and the rubber can return to its
original shape
Synthetic Rubber
1. Neoprena
2. Polibutadiena
3. Buna-s (Butadiena Stirena)
4. Buna-n (Butadiena Nitril)
1. Neoprena
• Properties: resistant to oxidation, sunlight, oil, steam, and flame.
• Function: for gasoline hoses, goods packaging, da wire insulators
2. Polibutadiena
• Properties: less elastic
• Function: for a mixture of natural rubber or karen synthetic
3. Buna-s (Butadiena Strine)
Also called SBR (styrene butadiene rubber)
• Properties: resistant to oxidation and sunlight
• Function: for motor vehicle tires
4. Buna-n (Butaiena Nitril)
• Properties: resistant to oil and flame
• Function: for fuel oil hose
