They also have photo processing centers, cellular phone shops, optical shops, as well as fast food chains and restaurants. Their supermarkets are usually packed because their grocery items are cheaper than other stores In the 1970s, Modesta Singson Gaisano established White Gold Department Store in Cebu City. scholarship program awards scholarships to poor but deserving students who are having difficulty continuing their education. As a loving tribute to her commitment for the poor, her sons, Stephen and Henry, established the Gaisano Foundation in 1955 so they can continue to help the poor through its scholarship program.
The Gaisano scholarship has been considered as one of
the biggest and longest running in the country. The foundation usually awards each scholar P100,000 to fund their college education. GAISANO Grand malls celebrated its 36th anniversary in the retail industry last month with a series of corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs aimed at giving back to the community. Each Gaisano Grand branch in the Visayas and Mindanao, or a total of 25 stores, simultaneously organized activities, such as feeding, tree-planting and clean-up drives. In Cebu, Gaisano Grand branches in Carcar City, Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City, Moalboal town and Talamban in Cebu City held feedings in cooperation with local government units; while its branches in Dumanjug town and Mandaue City partnered with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office and the local government units in tree-planting activities in Barangays Calabon and Cantipla. Employees from Gaisano Grand Cordova town and Talamban also did clean-up activities and also celebrated its anniversary with a chain-wide sale across all its branches
