CLOUD
COMPUTING
z
INTRODUCTION

Cloud computing consists of three distinct types of

computing services delivered remotely to clients via the
internet. Clients typically pay a monthly or annual
service fee to providers, to gain access to systems that
deliver software as a service, platforms as a service and
infrastructure as a service to subscribers. Clients who
subscribe to cloud computing services can reap a variety
of benefits, depending on their particular business needs
at a given point in time.
z
WHAT IS CLOUD ?

The Cloud refers to a network or internet.

In other words, we can say that cloud is used to store the

data by remotely in the internet.

Cloud can provide services over network, i.e.,

on public networks or on private networks, i.e, WAN,

LAN, or VPN.

Applications such as e-mail, web conferencing, customer

relationship management (CMR), all run in cloud.
z
WHAT IS CLOUD COMPUTING?
Cloud computing is a type of computing that relies on
shared computing resources rather than having local
servers or personal devices to handle applications. The
services are delivered and used over the Internet and are
paid for by the cloud customer on an as-needed or pay-per-
use business model.
z
BASIC CONCEPTS

There are certain services and models working behind

the scene making the cloud feasible and accessible to end
users.

Following are the working models for cloud computing:

1.Deployment Models

2. Service Models
z
TYPES OF CLOUD

1. Public Cloud

2. Private Cloud

3. Community Cloud

4. Hybrid Cloud
z
DESCRIPTION

 Public Cloud: The Public Cloud allows systems and

services to be easily accessible to the general public.
Public Cloud may be less secure because of its openness.
Ex: E-mail.

 Private Cloud: The Private Cloud allows systems and

services to be accessible within organization. It offers
increased security because of its private nature.
z

 Community Cloud: It allows systems and services to be

accessible by group of organizations.

 Hybrid Cloud: This cloud is mixture of public and private

cloud. However, the critical activities are performed using
private cloud while the non-critical activities are performed
using public cloud.
z
SERVICE MODELS

Service models are the reference models on which the

cloud computing is based. These can be categorized into
three basic service models listed as below.

1. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).

2. Platform as a Service (PaaS).

3. Software as a Service (SaaS).

z
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

 IaaS is the delivery of technology infrastructure as

an on demand scalable service.

 IaaS provides access to fundamental resources such

as physical machines, virtual machines,

 Ex: Amazon Web Services

z
Platform as a Service (PaaS)

 Platform as a Service (PaaS) or

Application Platform as a Service (aPaaS)
or platform-based service is a category of cloud
computing services that provides
a platform allowing customers to develop, run, and
manage applications without the complexity of
building and maintaining the infrastructure typically
associated with developing and launching an app

 Ex: Google App Engine

z
Software as a Service (SaaS)

 Software as a service (SaaS) is a software distribution

model in which a third-party provider hosts applications
and makes them available to customers over the
Internet. SaaS is one of three main categories of cloud
computing, alongside infrastructure as a service (IaaS)
and platform as a service (PaaS).
z
ADVANTAGES

1. Less Costs

2. 24 X 7 Availability

3. Flexibility in Capacity

4. All over Functioning

5. Automated Updates on Software

6. Security

7. Carbon Footprint

8. Enhanced Collaboration

9. Control on the Documents

10. Easily Manageable

z
DIS-ADVANTAGES

1. Requires a constant internet connection.

2. Does not work well with low speed connections.

3. Features might be limited.

4. Cab be slow.
z
CLOUD STORAGE

 Create an account with User name & password.

 Content lives with the account in the cloud.

 Log on to any Wi-Fi to find your content.

 Ex: Sky drive, Drop box, Amazon cloud drive
