Evolution of Different Sports Attire

BASKETBALL UNIFORM
1901
 Shorts featured in three
styles:
 Knee-Length padded pants
(Similar style to American
Footballer pants)
 Shorter pants
 Knee-length tights
 Jerseys in a heavy wool
material in two sleeve
length options:
 Quarter-length sleeve
 Sleeveless version
1970’s
 Tighter fitting uniforms were
adopted with more colours
incorporated into uniform design
 The diagonal stripes popular in
the 1970s have now fallen out of
fashion with only the Suns and
Trail Blazers uniforms
maintaining it today.
 Vertical team names was a
variation chosen by some teams.
 Barber pole striping was a
popular design element adopted
in that era. An example of this
design is seen on the 1974-1980
Cavaliers uniform.
1990’s to Current
 While the early 1990’s uniforms
evolved into a baggier version, in the
second half of that decade it also
became a lot lighter. These lighter
uniforms required a change in fabric;
moving away from standard materials
such as dazzle nylon and pro mesh. By
2001, Nike started to develop a Dri-
Fit/Cool-Dry mesh for jerseys and
shorts. This heralded the official age of
the longer short that falls well over the
knee when the player is bent.

 In hip-hop, you could see celebrities

walking in loose baggy shorts and
equally long sleeveless tees. These
designs almost eclipsed the game itself
and became a part of the hippie culture
and street wear.
VOLLEYBALL UNIFORM
1895

 When volleyball was first

invented it was played by
men. They wore very
conservative clothes, like a
long sleeved shirt, pants
that ran past the knee, and
leather shoes. However
while containing their
conservative values their
uniform often grew
uncomfortable because of
their tight clothing and
heavy shoes.
1900

 Women officially didn't

start to play volleyball as
a competitive sport until
the the 40's but college
and high school ball
started way before than.
However when women
did play in the 1900's
they usually wore very
conservative clothing
and uncomfortable
shoes, so about their
everyday women attire.
1937

 During this time period

uniforms were kind of in
the middle of athletic
and conservative
clothing. Many players,
coaches, and teams
preffered comfortable
attire more than
conservative clothing.
1940

 In the 1940's the general

uniform changed to more
of an athletic style than
conservative. For
instance the skirts
chsnged to short cotton
shorts, a sleeveless shirt,
socks that went to the
ankle, and a low
comfortable shoe.
1960
 Volleyball uniforms have
really been questioned for
what is considered a real
uniform, but in the 60's you
will start to see the older
uniforms leave schools and
the newer ones come in. For
example sleeves of shirts will
start to come off, skirts will
totally disappear with the
replacment of athletic shorts,
and knee-pads will start to be
worn. Also school logo's,
names, mascot's, colorful
colors, and numbers will be a
frequent accurance with
volleyball uniforms.
1970

 In the 1970's spandez

started to become
popular in volleyball
because of its flexability.
2000

 In the 20th century most

all volleyball unifroms
were pretty similair to
present day uniforms,
although styles and
trends have changed
from then to now.
2014

 Recent volleyball
uniforms usuallly consist
of a short sleeved elastic
type material shirt,
spandex, knee-pads, and
volleyball shoes. Yes
volleyball shoes they are
specially designed for the
game of volleyball, unlike
regular tennis shoes.
2015

 Present day uniforms can

be almost any kind of
shirt type. It just depends
what your school or
region requires, but most
all volleyball attire is
similair.
