Q.What do we mean by man's original state? A. By man's original state, we mean his state immediately following his creation and prior to his lapse into sin.
1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE
The Origin of Man God created man. The origin of human race is found in divine council. God said, “Let Us make man” (Gen. 1:26). Created from the dust of the ground. God formed man from “the dust of the ground” (Gen. 2:7). Man’s exalted position. The creation of man was zenith of all Creation.

Genesis 1:26-27 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” 1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE Man in the Image of God Created in the Image and Likeness of God. It is frequently suggested that human moral and spiritual dimensions reveal something about God’s moral and spiritual nature. But since the Bible teaches that man comprises an indivisible unity of body, mind, and soul, man’s physical features must also, in some way, reflect God’s image.
1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE
Man in the Image of God Created for Relationships with Others Just as the three members of the Godhead are united in a loving relationship, so we were created for the fellowship found in friendship or marriage (Gen. 2:18). In these relationships we have the opportunity to live for others. To be genuinely human is to be relationship oriented.

Man in the Image of God Created to be Stewards of the Environment It was as God’s representative that man was placed over the lower created orders. So we are not the victim of circumstances, dominated by environmental forces. Rather, God has commissioned us to make a positive contribution by shaping the environment, using each situation in which we are placed as an opportunity to accomplish God’s will.

Man in the Image of God Created with Conditional Immortality At Creation, our first parents were given immortality, though their possession of it was conditioned upon obedience. Having access to the Tree of Life, they were destined to live forever. Disobedience would lead to death (Gen. 2:17; 3:22) 1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE SEXUALITY IN ITS ORIGINAL STATE Genesis 1:26-27 [26] Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." THE ORIGINAL UNITY OF HUMANITY Human race contains no other blood than that of Adam and Eve (Acts 17:26) Animals were created with various kinds while human appears in single variety. Science confirms this biblical information. The same biological variables, as well as the same psychological traits and cultural constants, are present in all human races. Differences among human races involve nothing but recombination, enhancement, or partial suppression of characteristics common 1-MAN'S to all ofSTATE ORIGINAL humankind. THE ORIGINAL UNITY OF HUMANITY Though not concerned with races as such, Genesis 11 stresses the original unity of humankind, even after the Flood. ―The whole earth had one language‖ (verse 1) in the first generation after the catastrophe. That generation, just as Adam and Eve, were commanded to ―fill the earth‖ (Gen. 9:1).

THE ORIGINAL UNITY OF HUMANITY Under an autocratic leadership, however (Gen. 10:8, 9), they disobeyed the divine command (Gen. 11:4) and concentrated in Southern Mesopotamia (verse 2). For the good of this and all succeeding generations God disbanded them, enforcing cultural and linguistic diversity among different groups (verse 8; compare divisions among Semites, Japhetites, and Hamites in Genesis 10). This forced dispersal might well have provided the first opportunity for the genetic drift and inbreeding responsible for the racial diversity observable today among humans. 1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE Inner Life and Its Organic Support Man – a Living Soul. The scriptural equation is straightforward: the dust of the ground (earth’s elements) + the breath of life = a living being, or living soul. The union of earth’s elements with the breath of life resulted in a living being, or soul.
1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE
Man – a Living Soul This “breath of life” is not limited to people. Every living creature possesses it. The Bible, for example, attributes the breath of life to both those animals that went into Noah’s ark and those that did not (Gen. 7:15,22) 1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE Man – a Living Soul It is important to note the Bible says that man became a living soul. Nothing in the creation account indicates that man received a soul – some kind of separate entity that, at Creation, was united with the human body.
1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE
Biblical meaning of soul Biblical evidence indicates that sometimes nephesh and psuche refer to the whole person and at other times to a particular aspect of man such as affections, emotions, appetites, and feelings. This usage, however, in no way shows that man is a being made up of two separate and distinct parts. The body and the soul exist together; together they form an indivisible union.

Biblical meaning of spirit As with ruach (in the OT), there is nothing inherent in the word pneuma (in the NT) denoting an entity in man capable of conscious existence apart from the body
1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE
A Twofold Union Although the Bible views the nature of man as a unity, it does not precisely define the relationship between body, soul, and spirit. At times soul and spirit are used interchangeably. In one instance man is characterized as body and soul (Matt. 10:28) and in another instance as body and spirit (1 Cor. 7:34).
1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE
A Threefold Union There is one exception to the general characterization of man as comprising a twofold union of body and spirit, also spoken of in terms of a threefols union (1 Thess. 5:23). This passage conveys Paul’s desire that none of these aspects of the person be excluded from the sanctification process.

An Indivisible, Sympathetic Union It is clear that each human being is an indivisible unit. The body, soul, and spirit function in close cooperation, revealing an intensely sympathetic relationship between a person’s spiritual, mental and physical faculties. Deficiencies in one area will hamper the other two. 1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE Man’s Original State 1. God created man in His own image, in His own likeness (Gen. 1:26-27; 9:6)

[27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 9:6 Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man. 1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE Man’s Original State 2. Genesis 2:19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. Genesis 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." 1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE Man’s Original State 3. Man was not created a sinner, but sin entered into the world through man, by his conscious voluntary choice (Gen. 3:1-6; Rom. 5:12-14; Ecc. 7:29)

Genesis 3:1-6 [1] Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, `You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" [2] The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, [3] but God did say, `You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'"

[4] "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. [5] "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." [6] When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Romans 5:12-14 [12] Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned -- [13] for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. [14] Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come. Ecclesiastes 7:29 This only have I found: God made mankind upright, but men have gone in search of many schemes.

Circumstances of man's original state It was one of special providence. It was one of unhindered access to God. It was one of exemption from physical death. It was one of liberty within the circumference of the law. It was one of most intimate companionship with a counterpart of his own flesh and bone. 1-MAN'S ORIGINAL STATE The knowledge of the value God places on the human person should fill us with grateful joy. At the same time, we should feel a sense of responsibility, not only to care for our own selves, but to take to heart the welfare of our brothers and sisters who also have been created in the image of God.
