TYPES OF TESTING
1.DESTRUCTIVE TESTING.
• It is carried to find properties and behaviour of specimen
under different load.
• example:bending test,tension test.
• Principle
• A liquid penetrant is applied at the surface of the specimen.
The penetrant is drawn by the surface flaws due to capillary
action and this is subsequently revealed by a developer, in
addition with visual inspection.
• Procedure
– Cleaning the surface
– Application of the penetrant
– Removal of excess penetrant
– Developing
– Inspection
Capillary action is the ability of a liquid to absorb into a
narrow passageway (defect).
LIQUID PENETRANT
METHOD
• PENETRANT TYPES:
• 1.WATER WASHABLE PENETRANT(metallurgy lab)
• 2.FLOURESANT PENETRANT (yellowish green)
• CLEANERS:
• 1.ACETONE
• 2.TRI CHLORO ETHYELENE
• DEVELOPER TYPES:
• 1.DRY DEVELOPER
• 2.WET DEVELOPER
• 3.NON AQUEOUS DEVELOPER
Liquid Penetrant Testing, Welding Inspection Class 2018, Group 1.mp4
• ADVANTAGES
• Simple & inexpensive
• Slag inclusion
• Poor penetration
• Voids
• NDT can save and/or avoid costs in millions of dollars for
facilities that use its methods.
• Less Costly
