THERAPEUTIC TOUCH

• also called Non-Contact Therapeutic

Touch (NCTT) or Distance Healing
• is an energy therapy claimed to promote
healing and reduce pain and anxiety.
• by placing hands on, or near, a patient,
practitioners are able to detect &
manipulate patient's putative energy
field.
ORIGIN OF TOUCH THERAPY
• conceived in the 1970s by Dora Kunz, a
theosophy promoter and one-time
president of the Theosophical Society of
America, and Dolores Krieger, a nursing
educator at New York University.
• According to them, it is the healee
(client) who heals himself. The healer or
therapist acts as a human energy
support system until the healee's own
immunological system is robust enough
to take over.
METHOD OF TOUCH THERAPY
• Begins by using the hands to gently glide
close over the body without actually touching
• This allows the energy field of the
practitioner to connect with the energy field
of the patient.
• The practitioner determines where the flow
is inhibited or blocked.
• Each median or chakra is related to some
aspect of physical, mental, or spiritual
vitality, a blockage will produce a negative
impact on some aspect of the patient’s well-
being.
METHOD OF TOUCH THERAPY (contd..)
• To relax the individual & stimulate a
proper flow of energy once more.
• Acupuncture, aromatherapy, tapping may
be done along.
• Surroundings must be perfectly quiet.
• Tapping calls for using the forefinger &
index finger to lightly tap on specific points
on the face, upper chest,& hand.
• As the tapping takes place, the patient
either audibly or silently repeats a mantra
that focuses on the negative symptom.
BENEFITS OF TOUCH THERAPY
• A sensation of enveloping warmth from
the therapist’s touch
• A totally relaxed state
• The feeling of vibrations of energy
coursing through the entire body
• Intense euphoria and feelings of peace
• A kaleidoscope of color and beautiful light

MASSAGE THERAPY
• Is the manipulation of superficial layers of
muscle & connective tissue to enhance
the function & promote relaxation & well-
being.
• Involves acting on & manipulating the
body with pressure–structured,

tension, motion, or vibration
• Target tissues are muscles, tendons,
ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective
