Memo
• Is a short official note that is sent by
one person to another within the same
company or organization to remind
the recipient.
Memos
• Is used to inform or persuade people within a
certain organization.
• It is a tool for internal communication.
• Follows an inverted pyramid structure.

Five types of Memo
1. Instruction Memo – calls for action since it conveys
directives to the readers. E.g. annual check-up
2. Request Memo – asks the readers to provide
certain information or take a particular action. E.g.
request of fund
3. Announcement Memo – provides information
about an event, person or thing. E.g. meeting
announcement
4. Transmittal Memo – serves as a cover note for a
more extensive enclosed document. E.g. annual
report transmittal to the BOD
5. Authorization Memo – gives permission. E.g. memo
allowing an employee to take a leave of absence.
