DEVELOPMENT OF

FISH FEEDING
MACHINE FOR
AQUACULTURE
INDUSTRY
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Aquaculture in the Philippines has a long history and

involves many species and farming practices in diverse
ecosystems. Most of the production comes from the
farming of seaweed, milkfish, tilapia, shrimp, carp, oyster
and mussel or “tahong”. Aquaculture significantly
contributes to the country’s food demand, not only that, it
also contributes to the foreign exchange earnings of the
country. It is also growing much faster than capture
fisheries.
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

For a very long time, aquaculture in the Philippines was

commonly known to culture milkfish in brackish water ponds
which is a mixture of river water and sea water. Farming and
Culturing process reflects to the total output of the industry.
Therefore incorporating the idea of maximizing the efforts to
improve the methods of raising the cultured species must be
considered. Raising the milkfish for example has a factors to
consider like overfeeding, poisoning and lack of fish supply. To
counter this kind of problem, the need to improve the current
ways and methods as well as equipments used for culturing
process must be considered.
INTRODUCTION
It has been introduced, the floating fish feeding machine which
is programmed to feed the fish, shrimp etc. timely. The current
model only utilizes the dispensing of fish pellets at the time it is
programmed. It is also Solar powered therefore it recharges the
battery which powers up the motor which controls the food
outlet storage hopper. It is non working during hours of
darkness. Important considerable factors is much affected by
the use of machine in aquaculture. Factors such as Time,
Manpower and Budget for Feeding including cost of feeds and
labor is much greatly reduced. Improving farther, we are
incorporating another machine into the current model that will
help further reduce the cost for feeding.
INTRODUCTION
We are introducing the concept of combining pellet maker as
well as fish feeder. The purpose is to reduce much farther the
cost of fish food to maximize the earnings of fish pond owners.
Instead of buying a marketed finished pellet for fish ponds the
owner can now produce his own pellet with the need only to
buy the raw powdered ingredients. The importance of
converting powdered fish feeds to pellet is the particle size
distribution. Fish can easily consume the pelleted form rather
than powdered form and to avoid waste of fish food.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION
The machine is battery powered which powers up the powder
presser and the dispenser in a single shaft therefore it runs with
the same rated rpm. It has no solar panels and the hopper has a
cover for protection. The volume of powdered feed is limited by
the size of the hopper can hold. Powder feeds is moisturized
manually by the operator. The machine works at a constant
speed of motor. The floating mechanism is intended only to hold
the machine and along with the powdered feeds in its hopper
and is unmanned. The machine runs for 15 mins after the start
of operation and automatically stops. The PLC controls consist of
start, stop and emergency stop button. The machine is encased
within a steel bar frame with cover specifically metal sheet with
ventilation which protects the machine from unwanted
interruptions during machine operation. The machine is
intended to operate only to large ponds of tilapia and milkfish.
