WHAT IS
SWOT?

SWOT Analysis is a useful technique for

understanding your Strengths and
Weaknesses, and for identifying both the
Opportunities open to you and the Threats
you face.
S-STRENGTHS

in it’s being.

•What advantages do you have that others don't have?

•Which strength is unique to you?
•What personal resources can you access?
W-WEAKNESS
Critical characteristic that gives an disadvantage
in it’s being.

•What tasks do you usually avoid?

•Are you completely confident in your education and skills
training?
•What are your negative work habits?
O-OPPORTUNITIES
A set of circumstances that makes it possible to do
something for your advantage.

•Do you have a network of strategic contacts to help

you, or offer good advice?
•What trends (industry wise) do you see in your future,
and how can you take advantage of them?
•Are any of your competitors failing to do
something important?
T-THREATS
A set of circumstances that could have a negative
influence on the desired goal.

•What obstacles do you currently face?

•Does changing technology threaten your position?
•Could any of your weaknesses lead to threats?
Benefits of SWOT analysis
The main advantage of conducting a SWOT analysis is
that it has little or no cost - anyone who understands
ONESELF can perform a SWOT analysis.

Using a SWOT, you can:

•Understand yourself better

•Address weaknesses
•Take advantage of your strengths
•Develop goals and strategies for achieving them.
Limitations of SWOT analysis
When you are conducting a SWOT analysis, you should keep in
mind that it is only one stage. For complex issues, you will
usually need to conduct more in-depth research and analysis to
make decisions.
A SWOT analysis may be limited because it:
•Doesn't prioritize issues.
•Doesn't provide solutions or offer alternative
decisions.
•Can generate too many ideas but not help you choose which
one is best.
•Can produce a lot of information, but not all of it is useful.
