EAPP (English for Academic and Professional Purposes) has been one of my favorite
subject ever since I entered Senior High School. Reason is that it mainly focuses on lessons that can
improve your reading comprehension and writing skills. With these lessons, it can help you in some
other school projects or outputs like your research paper and other literary based tasks. Another
reason why I liked EAPP, is that because it is the subject that bonded me and my classmates during
the first few weeks in Senior High School.
At the very first week we were literally so quite inside the room, not only in our class in
EAPP, but with the other classes as well. Until one morning, we had an activity prepared by our
teacher in EAPP, who is also our adviser. Now in that activity we had so much fun, and we were like
the noisiest people in the building at that time. Because of that activity, our bond as a class started
to grow stronger and much more becoming like a family. Last reason why EAPP is one of the best
subjects here in Senior high, is because of our teacher, adviser and second mother, Ma'am Joane L.
Guerrero. She's the most important reason why I like her subject, all of her activities she held for
the class, and the way she teaches every lesson. Makes everyone of us understood every lessons
she discussed. And that is why EAPP is one of the best subjects in Senior High School.
EAPP subject helps us a lot
especially in improving our English skills and
how we will use it in a particular settings. In
this class we are gaining our confidence step
Art
by step and explaining things especially in
our reports. We learned also on how to write
of Enhancement
a passage or a text in their specific Mariel U. Sazon
discipline. It helps us also in enhancing our
listening comprehension, reading, grammar,
writing, and vocabulary development. We
have now a much better understanding
about various information and how this
lesson might helps us in the mere future.
EAPP engages us a lot to learn not only in
writing but also in speaking.
The Importance of Reading
Gabrielle A. Java
EAPP (English for Academic for Professional Purposes), along with my other subjects, taught me a lot of
things that are completely different from what I’ve learned during my junior years. I’ve experienced something new
and I realized that this is a part in my life where my literacy and communication skills would be tested. Back then,
we are only accustomed to book-based learning wherein we limit our knowledge by reading and learning only from
the books and other reading materials that were given to us. Now, we have to test how critical we are and how
broad our knowledge is. That’s when I realized, I don’t have that ‘monopoly’ of knowledge. But, that only means
that I still have a lot of space for growth. That’s why I’m grateful that we are able to go through the K-12 program
`
to learn how to be independent and learn how to properly write academic texts in preparation for college.
In EAPP, I learned how to differentiate academic from non-academic text. I also learned that critical
reading is an essential to fully understand and internalize whatever text we are reading. It was actually my first
time reading ‘Love is a Fallacy’ written by Max Shulman. I was able to test my critical reading skills through this text
and was able to grasp some concept about the fallacies stated. It was fun, actually.
One thing I’ve also learned is to write an outline and a summary. Back then, I really do not have the
know-how of writing a summary. It would always turn out to be too lengthy and wordy. Thanks to EAPP, I was able
to learn how to write in a proper way. My vocabulary has also improved greatly, because this subject also
encouraged me to read again (I was an avid reader back then, but due to the stress and too much school work, I
don’t have the energy to read). As it turned out, it made me fall in love in reading, all over again. We should learn
not only to appreciate novels or other non-academic texts, but also academic ones. I’ve realized that not a lot of
people can truly see the importance of thesis and dissertations published by other people because it is not a work of
fiction and they say it’s too boring. But for me, it isn’t. It is very useful when used as a reference when you conduct
your own research and you can gain a lot of additional knowledge from the works of others. I hope there’s more to
learn in this subject.
