Definition of Leukemia
•Leukemia is a cancer that forms blood tissue, including bone marrow. There
are many types, such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia, acute myeloid
leukemia, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Etiologi
•The cause of leukemia is still not known with certainty until now. There are
several factors that cause leukemia, ranging from chromosomal
abnormalities, pollution exposure, radiation exposure, smoking, obesity, and
so forth.
•In other words, the cause of leukemia can come from external and internal
body factors. Factors that cause leukemia externally include exposure to
radiation, pollution, certain dangerous chemicals.
• Cause of Leukemia
• Symptoms of blood cancer vary, depending on the type of
blood cancer suffered. In some cases, symptoms tend to be
difficult to recognize because they are similar to symptoms of
other conditions, for example flu. But in general, the symptoms
of blood cancer are: Fever and chills, nausea and vomiting,
constipation, sore throat, headache, the body gets tired easily,
night sweats, weight decreased dramatically, red spots appear
on the skin, frequently infected, swollen lymph nodes, pain in
the joints and bones, especially the spine or sternum, bruising
and bleeding are easy (nosebleeds), hard to breathe.
Medical Management.
•Patients with leukemia suspicions should be referred to a
hematologist for a definitive diagnosis to begin
immediately. Treatment options for acute leukemia are
chemotherapy, radiation, monoclonal antibodies, or
hematopoietic stem cell transplants. The type of therapy
given depends on the subtype, cytogenic leukemia and its
molecular findings, the patient's age and the
accompanying comorbid conditions.
•Broadly speaking the modalities of leukemia therapy
include chemotherapy, supportive management, and
hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
1.Chemotherapy: chemotherapy regimen that is tailored to the patient's
condition and leukemia subtypes suffered

2.Supportive handling:
•Provision of blood components needed
•Providing components to increase leukocyte levels
•Providing good and adequate nutrition
•Giving antibiotics, antifungal and antiviral if needed
•Psychosocial decision
•Care in a clean room
•Oro-anal hygiene (mouth and anus)

3.Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

• Conclution
Leukemia is a disease caused by the proliferation of abnormal and
malignant leukocyte cells and is often accompanied by an excessive number
of leukocytes from blood-making cells that are systemic and usually end
fatal.
The cause of leukemia is still not known with certainty until now. According
to the results of research, people with certain risk factors increase the risk of
leukemia. These risk factors include the host, namely age, sex, race and
genetic factors as well as the agents, namely viruses, radioactive rays,
chemicals, smoking and the environment.
