Objectives

The first aim of this training is to understand the features available

for radio terminals in Sage ERP X3.
Then you will be able to understand the technical impact of the use
of an external device.
At the end of this training, you will be able to parameterise and use
the Automated Data Collection (ADC) functionalities.
This training will not cover any settings of VT mobile devices.

Introduction

Based on an emulation of Sage ERP X3 : real time, consistent with X3 and

open to every VT emulation device.
Same site is displayed for all movements. (Site by default per user, it can be
modified with Set Site function)
Portable terminals allow to create documents: no change nor deletion
possible.
1 line of document = 1 movement of a unique stock line.
Example : the receipt of 2 lots should be done in two different entries (except for serial
numbers).

Displayed all fields allow to identify lines of stock -> not managed by
parameterizable entry transactions.
2 types of procedures are managed by radio frequency:
Procedures related to physical flows.
Procedures Inquiry or reporting.

Introduction

Radio Frequency Terminals and SAGE ERP X3

 Features developed using SAFE X3 technology.

 Real-time communication through a radio frequency terminal server, usually

shared with the Web server.

 No intermediate layer with Sage ERP X3 = no data loss + data consistency.

 Emulation layer accessible from a large number of mobile terminals on the market
= autonomy in the selection of terminals

Introduction

RF Terminals
What is an emulation mode?
When setting up a radio system in emulation mode, the system
emulates a host system screen (as if the screen was directly connected
to the host system).
What you should know
Each terminal is using one open session and one open session requires
one system license
In case of malfunction of access points, the restricted mode is not
possible (as opposed to client / server). In this case, the radio terminal
emulation is passive and the connection between your host and the
terminal is interrupted.
RF terminals Characteristics
Bi-directional communication in real time between the operator and the
information system with:
Checks and immediate error messages
Common data update.

Prerequisite

A specific license is required per user

Development > Utilities > Verifications > Visualize license
This function shows the number of ADCs licenses.

The activity code ADC should be active

Development > Data and parameters > Development Setup > Activity codes

Radio Frequency technology relies on the use of a web server, web

server provides a VT terminal emulation to access the Sage X3.

Ergonomics of RF screen

The ergonomics are specific for a VT application. The list below

defines the characteristics:
The field being entered is in reverse video and in bold.
The field length is illustrated by dots.
The hourglass is illustrated by a * in the upper left.
The sections are not illustrated and their title is not displayed.
The tabs are displayed one by one.

Ergonomics of RF screen – Contextual buttons

4 buttons
F1 [OK] to select a function or to validate a new line
F2 [Crea] to validate and create the transaction of one or several lines
F3 [Sel] or [SelQ] or [Canc] depending on each screen
F4 [End] to go back to previous screen

25 / © Sage 2010 INV404_Radio Terminals

Ergonomics of RF screen – UPC Code

Universal Product Code (UPC Code)

Product code information: It is possible to enter the X3 code of a product or an
UPC code corresponding to a product. If the UPC code is recognized, it is
replaced by the corresponding X3 product code.
UPC are generally used for barecoding.

Development for VT mode

Introduction
The development of the application and the first tests are to be carried out in the
Client/Server environment.
The next tests can then be carried out upon VT emulation and then upon mobile
drive emulation.

Development for VT mode

The VT windows are to be defined in the X3 dictionary. Since the mobile drive
has a limited display capacity, following rules apply and should be obeyed.

The screen:
8 lines at a maximum (7 data lines + 1 button line )
20 columns at a maximum
List and Grid section authorized

Stock management rules &
valuation

32 / © Sage 2010 INV404_Radio Terminals

Stock management rules & valuation

Transactions available
The system offers only transactions within the rules inherent in the management
VT (e.g. no lot characteristics except the Expiry date, no automatic
determination).

Transactions (through the movement code) defines:

Authorized status and sub-status & default status
Location suggestion: Location category that will be proposed by default for the
movement. On the product site you could set a more precise location type and /
or location
Lot number management
QC Request generation
Obsolete stock control

Valuation
Each movement generated through the ADCs functions are valued following the
same rule than the normal functions.

Starting VT terminal

Connection with TELNET

Use following command : telnet ServerName PortNumber
Example : telnet SAGEX3 28023

Application selection X3 login screen

Beware : The list shows all the published solutions on that server,
regardless of whether or not they are accessible by a VT terminal.

Optionally create a *. bat file (eg VT.bat) with the above mentioned command.

Weighing & ADCs

Reconciliation
This function is used in a weighing flow, right after the weighing stage. The
reconciliation is a control done on all the material weighed on a weigh station for
a works order. This prevents to forget, mix or add a component and ensure the
respect of the process and of the traceability

Start process control

This function is used in a weighing flow, right before the mixture of the
component in the reactor. The reconciliation is a control done on all the material
weighed on a weigh station for a works order. This prevents to forget, mix or add
a component and ensure the respect of the process and of the traceability

Both functions are quite similar and soon available in the ADCs
function
