PROFESSION
1 A profession arises when any trade or occupation
transforms itself through "the development of formal
qualifications based upon education,
apprenticeship, and examinations, the emergence of
regulatory bodies with powers to admit and
discipline members, and some degree of
monopoly rights”.
Human activities are primarily classified into two
categories, i.e. economic activities, and non-
economic activities. Economic Activities are the
activities conducted with an aim of earning money or
livelihood. Further, these activities are sub-divided
into BUSINESS, PROFESSION and EMPLOYMENT.
PROFESSION is the full fledged job that require technical,
conceptual, and all other skills that are required to complete the
given work in the smarter and better way.
TRADE is the kind of work that require the manual and the
hand skills that are so, perfect that the work is completed within
the time or before, professionalism is low in Trade up-to some
extent.
SCHEMATIC DESIGN – During this stage your architect will begin by preparing
preliminary design sketches based on your requirements and budget to explore
and illustrate possible options. The architect will review these options with
you, pointing out the merits and responding to your input.
BIDDING AND NEGOTIATION – Your architect can advise you on your choice of
contractor – usually done by calling for competitive bids. Your architect will help
evaluate the bids and select the contractor, and prepare the contract between you
and the contractor.

Architects sometimes specialize in one phase of work. Some specialize in
the design of one type of building—for example, hospitals, schools, or
housing. Others focus on planning and predesigned services or
construction management and do minimal design work.
1. SCOPE OF WORK
The Architect is required to provide services in respect of the following :
1.1 Taking Client's instructions and preparation of design brief.
1.2 Site evaluation, analysis and impact of existing and / or proposed development on its immediate environs.
1.3 Design and site development.
1.4 Structural design.
1.5 Sanitary, plumbing, drainage, water supply and sewerage design.
1.6 Electrical, electronic, communication systems and design.
1.7 Heating, ventilation and air conditioning design (HVAC) and other mechanical systems.
1.8 Elevators, escalators, etc.
1.9 Fire detection, Fire protection and Security systems etc.
1.10 Periodic inspection and evaluation of Construction works. Until the completion of project.
