REINFORCED WITH FINE MESH Presented by: Marero, Sydney Navarro, Camille Paclibar, Jomarie METHODOLOGY • This study will use experimental research design. According to Sugiyono (2006), experimental research is a research which has the purpose to find the cause-effect relationship among variables in a controlled condition. In experimental research, researchers deliberately control and manipulate the conditions which determine the event in which they are interested, introduce an intervention and measure the differences that it makes. An experiment involves making a change in the value of one variable – called the independent variable and observing the effect of that change on another variable – called the dependent variable (Louis, 2006). The type of experimental research design that will be used in this study is true experimental design. A true experimental design is thought to be the most accurate type of experimental research according to Campbell and Stanley (1963). True experiment supports or refutes a hypothesis using statistical analysis. And can also establish cause and effect relationship between variables. The results of a true experimental design can be statistically analyzed and makes it easier to other researchers. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY 1. To identify the types of soils in Rizal through sieve analysis. 2. To determine if there is any significant difference between soils reinforced with fine mesh and soils without any reinforcement in terms of its shear strength and shear displacement. 3. To analyze if there’s a significant relationship between the shear strength and shear displacement of the soil samples when the fine mesh is placed horizontal or placed in a 45º inclination on the soil samples. STATISTICAL TREATMENT 1. In assessing in the shear strength of the soils in Rizal with fine mesh through direct shear test, the researchers will not use any statistical treatment. 2. In identifying the types of soil in Rizal, there is no statistical treatment needed. STATISTICAL TREATMENT 3. In determining if there is any significant difference between soil reinforced with fine mesh and soils without any reinforcement in terms of its shear strength and shear displacement, T-test will be applied. 4. In analyzing if there’s a significant relationship between the shear strength and shear displacement of the soil samples when the fine mesh is placed horizontal or placed in 45° inclination on the soil sample, correlation will be applied. ACCOMPLISHMENT/PROGRESS REPORT • As for collecting soil samples, we haven’t done it yet, however we already set the list of locations on where we’re going to collect the soil samples we needed in each municipalities in Rizal. • We already contacted DPWH, BRS and DOST where the testing procedures will be done.
