5g

Introduction
• 5G Technology stands for 5th Generation Mobile
Technology.
• Designed to meet the very large growth in data
and connectivity in the today’s modern society.
• It is a viable and scalable technology.
• Made to make use of mobile phones within very
high bandwidth.
• Includes all types of advanced features which
makes it most dominant technology in the near
future.
Technology used
It is evolved in the development of the technologies
like,
• 802.11 Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN)

• 802.16 Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks

(WMAN)

• Ad-hoc Wireless Personal Area Network

(WPAN)
Comparison between 5G and previous
generations
Challenges In Migration From 4G
• Multi mode user terminals .
• Choice among various wireless systems.
• Security.
• Network infrastructure and QoS support.
• Charging and Billing .
• Jamming and spoofing.
• Data Encryption.
5G enables
• Massive machine to machine communications
IoT involves connecting billions of devices without human
intervention.

• Ultra-reliable low latency communications

Industrial robotics, vehicle to vehicle communications and safety
systems and Autonomous driving and safer transport networks.
Low latency communications also opens up a new world where
remote medical care, procedures, and treatment are all possible.

• Enhanced mobile broadband

Provides significantly faster data speeds and greater capacity.
Key Capabilities of IMT-2020 Defined
by ITU
• In February 2017, the International Telecommunication Union
(ITU) issued the Minimum Requirements Related to Technical
Performance for 5G.

• The Radio communication Sector of ITU (ITU-R) defines

eight quantified KPIs for IMT-2020,
 Peak Data Rate, User Experienced Data Rate, Spectrum
Efficiency, Latency, Area Traffic Capacity, Connection
Density, Mobility, and Network Energy Efficiency.
• 1000 times higher mobile data volume per geographical area., 10 to 100
times more connected devices. 10 times to 100 times higher typical user
data rate.10 times lower energy consumption.
• End-to-End latency of < 1ms. Ubiquitous 5G access including in low
density areas.
Technology trends
5G have some technological trends that leads to
achieve the aforementioned applications.
• Network slicing
• Cloud and Fog / Mobile Edge Computing.
• Separation of control and user plane.
• Virtualization of Networking functions.
• Massive MIMO and Utilization of
mmwave.
• Multiple access schemes.
• Ultra dense infrastuctures.
• Advanced Coding.
Technological trends
5G have some technological trends that helps to
achieve the aforementioned applications.
Hardware And Software Partitioning
• This can provide a reconfigurable and a
flexible HW/SW partitioning to both device
and network element architectures.
Architecture
• The system consists of a user terminal and a
number of independent, autonomous radio
access technologies.
• Within each of the terminals, each of the radio
access technologies is seen as the IP link to the
outside Internet world.
• Different radio interface is given for each
Radio Access Technology (RAT) in the mobile
terminal.
Protocol stack
• The first two OSI levels (data-link level and physical level) are defining the
radio access technologies.
• Then, over the OSI-1 and OSI-2 layers is the network layer, and this layer
is IP (Internet Protocol) IPv4 or IPv6, regardless of the radio access
technology.
• In case of interoperability between heterogeneous networks and for the
vertical handover between the respective radio technologies, the local IP
address and destination IP address should be fixed and unchanged.
• In order to preserve the proper layout of the packets and to reduce or
prevent packets losses, routing to the target destination and vice versa
should be uniquely and using the same path.
• 5G mobile terminals will be suitable to have transport layer (TCP,RTP)
version which is targeted to a specific wireless technology installed at the
base stations. This is called here Open Transport Protocol - OTP.
Features
• 5G technology offers high resolution and bi-
directional large bandwidth shaping.
• The advanced billing interfaces of 5G
technology make it more attractive and
effective.
• It provides large broadcasting of datas in
Gigabits supporting almost 65,000
connections.
• Less traffic
Applications
• Wearable devices
• Highly used in IoT application devices.
• Enabled with AI.
Advantages
• Access to different wireless technologies at
the same time.
• Useful for mobile terminal users.
• Incredible speed and connectivity.
• Drastic reduction in the consumption of
energy.
• Enables instantaneous connectivity to billions
of devices, the Internet of Things (IoT) .
Conclusion
• The 5G technology is designed as an open
platform on different layers, from the physical
layer up to the application
• The 5G mobiles will have access to different
wireless technologies at the identical time and the
terminal should be able to merge different flows
from different technologies.
• 5G technology offers high resolution for the
mobile phone consumers.
