WELDING

In the industrial world there must be a welding process in every process. However, most people
understand the definition of welding only in electric welding (SMAW welding), carbide welding (OAW
welding) and argon welding (Las TIG / GTAW).
Welding is a bond because of the metallurgical process at the metal
alloy connection which is carried out in a liquid state
Definition of welding and types of welding Are:
1. Welding Press
Press welding is a welding process that is carried out by means of the
heated material then pressed until the two materials are joined together. The
following is an example of pressure welding:
• Explosion Las
• Swipe Las
• Las Forging
• Gas Welding Tap
2. Liquid welding.
Liquid welding is a welding process that is carried out by heating the
part to be joined to melt with a heat source from electrical energy or fire from
combustion of gas using either added ingredients or without using added
materials (fillers / electrodes). Here is an example of liquid welding:
• Arc Welding:
• Las SMAW.
• Las Argon (GTAW).
• Las FCAW.
• Las GMAW.
• Gas Welding:
• Las OAW
• Las Termit.
3. Desoldering
Desoldering is a method of connecting two metals with a heat
source by using added material which has a lower melting point, in this
desoldering process the parent metal does not melt. The following is
an example of Desoldering:
• - Soldering
• - Brazed
In this material we will focus on explaining about electric arc welding, which welding uses electrodes in the welding process
A. ELECTRIC ARC WELDING

Electric arc welding or commonly called electric welding, including a

process of connecting metals using electricity as a source of heat. The
electrodes melt together with the workpiece due to electric current arcing.
The arc movement is arranged in such a way that the workpiece and
electrodes that melt, after being cold can become a difficult part to separate.
This type of connection with electric welding is a fixed connection.
Classification of kinds of electric welding processes, among others, are:
1. Electric welding with Carbon Electrodes, for example:
Electric welding with a single carbon electrode Las electric with dual carbon
electrodes.
TYPES OF WELDING USING
WETTING ELECTRODES
• On the electric base with carbon electrodes, the electric arc that
occurs between the tip of the carbon electrode and the metal or
between the two ends of the carbon electrode will heat up and melt
the metal to be welded.
Electric welding with webbed electrodes.

The electric arc that occurs between the tip of the electrode and
the base material will melt the tip of the electrode and part of the base
material.
