Basic Definition:
Home automation is the use of one or more computers
to  control  basic home functions  and  features
automatically  and  sometimes  remotely.  An
automated home is sometimes called a smart home.
How does automation work in a
home?
• Home automation describes a system of networked,
controllable devices that work together to make your
home more comfortable, customized, efficient, and secure.
You “speak” with your automated home through a remote
control or smart device.

connected to your network
can be turned on or off
anytime via your smart
phone app.
Automated Home
Bringing the Future Home
• Automate chores such as watering your lawn, opening and closing drape,
controlling your lights and appliances, even controlling your electric water
heater.

• Use motion sensors to turn on floodlights and cameras outside your home, Or
turn on lights indoors as you walk from room to room, create an automatic
doorbell, and more.
Bringing the Future Home (Cont.…)
• Use water sensors to inform you of leaking plumbing, both minor or major.

• Remotely adjust your thermostat so you can warm up your home before you get
there.

• Set up Home Surveillance system by using webcams.

Why do we need home automation
system?
• Energy Efficiency
• Increase your home’s energy efficiency by remotely powering off systems and appliances
when they aren’t in use.
• Savings
• When you are able to use home systems and appliances only when needed, the savings
will be apparent in the first utility bill. Monetary savings are apparent, but you’ll also be
saving time.
• Convenience
• With home automation, convenient control of your home is at your fingertips. You don’t
have to trust someone else with your most valued possessions.
• To help the physically challenged peoples

Problems that you may face
Disadvantages:
• Reliability
• A smart home will be extremely reliant on your internet connection. If your connection
drops you’ll be left with a lot of smart products that won’t work.
• Cost
• Installing state-of-the-art features inside a home results in a higher price tag for the
property. The cost of an intelligent home that makes our lives convenient is high
because some of the technology is relatively new.
• Learning
•  For the technology-savvy family, the smart home will help achieve convenience faster,
but for non-tech savvy people, it will take reading manuals and learning how-to before
the benefits of convenience pay off.
• Prone to hacking/meltdowns/glitches
THANK YOU!
