ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Electrical safety is a system of organizational measures

and technical means to prevent harmful and dangerous
effects on workers from electric current, electric arc,
electromagnetic field and static electricity.

Electrical Hazards
BE SAFE:
Burns
Electrocution
Shock
Arc flash/arc blast
Fire
Explosions
Safety Helmets
The helmet protects the
head against:
Thermal Hazards
of Electric Arc. Electric s
hock – prevents shock
current flow through
the head. Molten metal
splashes. Injuries or
wounds created by
falling objects.
Safety helmets Colour Codes
Safety Gloves
Leather protector gloves –
Worn over rubber
insulating gloves to help
provide the mechanical
protection needed against
cuts, abrasions and
punctures. Employees who
work in close proximity to
live electrical current may
require a variety of
electrically insulating
protective equipment.
Reflective Jackets
The purpose of reflective
clothing, also known as
high-visibility
warning clothing, is to
signal the presence of the
user in places and situations
which may cause potential
threats to their health and
safety.
... Clothing with reflective el
ements is also used by
chemical and medical
rescue teams and fire
brigades
Respiratory Protection
Respiratory Protective
Equipment (RPE) is a
particular type of
Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE), used
to protect the individual
wearer against the
inhalation of hazardous
substances in the
workplace air.
Industrial work wear
Workwear and protective
clothing comes in all
shapes, sizes, materials and
weights to ensure a person
involved in a specific task or
environment is adequately
protected and able to apply
the level of physicality
required. Disposable
coveralls protect the skin
against hazardous dry
particles and chemical
sprays
Hearing Protection

Hearing protectors are

required to prevent noise
induced hearing loss. Hea
ring protection devices
reduce the noise energy
reaching and causing
damage to the inner ear.
Ear muffs and earplugs
are the most common
types of PPE.
Face protection

A face shield is a device

used to protect wearer's
entire face (or part of it)
from hazards such as
flying objects and road
debris, chemical splashes
(in industry), or
potentially infectious
materials (in medical and
laboratory environments).
Safety goggles

Goggles, or safety
glasses, are forms
of protective eyewear
that usually enclose or
protect the area
surrounding the eye in
order to prevent
particulates, water or
chemicals from striking
the eyes. They are used in
chemistry laboratories
and in woodworking.
Safety shoes
Safety shoes are
nonconductive and will
prevent the wearers' feet from
completing an electrical circuit
to the ground.
 Features
 Composite Toe Cap
 High Voltage Insulation
 Protective Toe Cap
 Single Colour
 Single Density
 Steel Plate
 Water Resistant German DIN
Leather
Safety signage
Warn people about
electrical hazards with
proper electrical safety
signs.
Discharge rods

The only purpose of a

ground rod or a group of
ground rods forming a
ground field is to have a
designed electrical path to
dissipate a
static discharge voltage
(which can be lightning or
other forms of static
electricity) to the earth.
When you ground electricity
you will be using a
ground rod in most cases.
Lockout Tagout

The purpose of LOTO is

to prevent injury to
servicing and /or
maintenance
employees due to the
unexpected
energization or startup
of machines, equipment
or processes; or the
release of stored
energy.
Fall protection devices
Functional Systems of Fall
Protection
Common fall arrest
equipment includes an
anchor point, body harness,
and connector (such as a
lanyard or self-retracting
lifeline. A full-
body harness is your first
line of defense. However,
the kind of harness you
need will depend on
the type of work being
done
Barricading Tape
Electrical Work
Used to barricade off
and restrict access
to electrical hazards.
This tape is commonly
used for switchboard
maintenance.
