CLIMATE ANALYSIS
• The climate in Auroville is semitropical and the main
monsoon stretches from October till December.

• From December to March the daytime temperature is


between 24°C and 30°C.

• Occasional rainfall in July brings the temperature down.


Nights are generally about5°C cooler than the days.

• The average rainfall is 1,230 mm. a year.

• The prevailing wind blows from the southeast.

ABOUT THE UDAVI SCHOOL
“No, there will be a primary class problem for the whole population… for
Auroville. And that will be an interesting problem: how can we prepare the
children, children taken from anywhere, who have no way of learning at
home, whose parents are ignorant, who have no possibility of having any
means to learn, nothing, nothing but the raw material, like that – how can
we teach them to live? That will be an interesting problem.”

• Block 1 consists of 10class rooms and it includes math lab,
science lab, English lab, activity room.
• The labs are located on the second floor.
• The capacity of each classroom ranges from 12-15
students.
• The block has 3 staircase in which 2 staircase are located
on its east and west side of the building.
• Another staircase is located at the centre of the block.
• Each class is of dimension of each classis 6mx5m with
a strength of 15 students .
• The building has g+1floors.

• The second block consists of 6 classes. Each class is
of6mX5m.
• The block has stair case in west side and in the
centre.
• The front face has archaded openings done by
exposed brick masonry.
• Open assembly hall which
upto 1m long linear fencing stones .
• The floor has cement flooring.
• It has trees and shrubs on the surrounding of the
assembly area.

• Outdoor assembly area is
surrounded by1m long
stone blocks.
• The area has large trees
on its surrounding and
helps in maintaining cool
temperature.
INTERACTION SPACES
• The banyan tree
surrounded by circular
ring of seating made up
of linear stones
• The spot acts as the
gathering spot for the
children .
• The students spend most
of their free time by

is open for both, the
local aurovilan
people as well as for
students.

• The materials used in the building are:

• The building has very less amount of concrete used and hence
it absorbs very less heat.
• The building has larger windows with movable louvers attached to it
,which could be adjusted according to the sunlight.
• The building has large vertical louvers in it which are inclined to an
angle so that the direct sunlight does not enter into the building and
brings in large amount of light in to the building.
