1.1 Outline
 Characteristics of the Network

Authentication functions (Pop Before SMTP, SMTP authentication,

APOP authentication) have been improved.

Network function (Ping Test) is added.

1.2 Characteristics of Controller NIC (1/7)
 Menu for Network Setting
To access Network setting, touch the [Utility/Counter] button first.
Touching [Admin.2] available from [Admin. Management] will display
[Network Settings].
IP Address, Subnet mask, and Default Gateway can be set from [Basic
Settings] which is available from [Network Settings].
1.2 Characteristics of Controller NIC (2/7)
 Network Settings – SMTP setting

Supports SMTP authentication

User name/password setting for SMTP
authentication will be displayed by setting with
the software switch (mode380).

Mode 380: Bit 6=1, Bit 2=1

Detail setting

Supports POP before SMTP

POP before SMTP will be available by setting
with the soft switch (mode 350).

1.2 Characteristics of Controller NIC (3/7)
Network setting – SMTP Setting
Outline of SMTP authentication

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) authentication

Specifications with user authentication function added to SMTP.
User is authenticated at mail transmission (access to SMTP server.)

Client PC Mail server

Information necessary for SMTP authentication

(User ID and password) will be also transmitted
when sending mails.
1.2 Characteristics of Controller NIC (4/7)
Network setting - SMTP Setting
Restrictions
For POP before SMTP, POP will be used as receiving action prior to the mail
transmission.
For SMTP authentication, user is authenticated when transmitting mails.
(Besides mail server, it must be supported by mail software at client PC.)

POP will be used for Authenticate when

authenticating a user transmitting mails
1.2 Characteristics of Controller NIC (5/7)
Network Setting – POP3 Setting
It supports APOP

APOP becomes available by setting with the

software switch (mode 380).
Mode 380: Bit 7=1

“Use/Do not use APOP” can be selected

1.2 Characteristics of Controller NIC (6/7)
Network setting– POP3 Setting
Outline of APOP

APOP (Authenticated Post Office Protocol)

Authentication method which encrypts password used for receiving E-Mail.
Normal POP may possibly be intercepted since the password itself will be
transmitted. APOP is safer than POP since the password is encrypted.

Client PC Mail server
